Obituary

Fangafitu (Fitu) Tasini Lavaka

Fangafitu (Fitu) Tasini Lavaka passed on July 25, 2026, at the Intermountain Health Utah Valley Hospital at the age of 78.

Fangafitu was born to the late Lopiseni & Anahalafatai Finau on June 6, 1948 in Houma, Tongatapu. She attended Beulah College in Tonga, then moved to Fiji in 1971 to continue her education at Fulton University. In 1972 Fangafitu migrated to the United States of America, living in the San Francisco Bay Area where she spent most of her life.

Fangafitu married the love of her life, the late Paea Tasini Lavaka in 1973. During this time she became a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings within the church over the years. Fitu & Paea were known for attending the church dances in matching outfits and dancing the night away. In 2013 Paea & Fitu relocated to Utah, which is where her love took his final breath in 2020.

Fangafitu had an unwavering faith, humble soul, she loved unconditionally and cared for all she came in contact with. She was a devoted wife that proudly carried her husband’s name and embraced his family as her own. She was a loving mother who dedicated her life to caring for her children and grandchildren and always welcomed their friends with open arms. She was a supportive sister who spoke to her siblings frequently, and always showed up for them and their offspring. She was a friend to all who crossed her path.

Fangafitu leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Paea, Mele Tuipulotu and Tuihalangingie; 18 grandchildren, 3 great-granddaughters, siblings: Emeline, Sione Unga, Selimoa, Tuihalangingie and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Let’s continue to celebrate the life of Fangafitu as she reunites with her husband Paea and their oldest daughter Lilika.
