Frances Edwards Bowen (98) passed away peacefully, on July 1, 2020, at her home, with loving family members present.
Frances was born in Wellington, Utah, and made a soft landing on her Grandmother Margaret's feather bed, on January 10, 1922. Her loving parents, Glenn D. Edwards and Alice Jean McNeill Edwards.
Frances lived her childhood during the Great Depression in the 1920's and 30's. Frances knew the value of money and hard work. She understood what life was like to have no electricity, telephone or running water in the house. She was the bridge between the pioneer days and the present.
Frances was raised in Provo, Utah and graduated from Provo High School in 1940, where she played the Oboe in the band, and marched in many summer parades in Utah.
Frances married David Stuart Bowen on March 12, 1942. They became the parents of David Bowen, Sheri Bowen, Edward S. Bowen, James Todd Bowen, Kristine Bowen, and Tamari Bowen Hedger.
Frances' greatest joy was being a mother and later a grandmother. She loved her home and kept it beautiful. She had many talents and enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, painting, reading, and creative writing where she was very passionate about family history. She was proud of her family pioneer heritage and her continued stories leave a legacy with all of her children and grandchildren.
Frances loved Cowboy Poetry and attended yearly conventions where she developed many friendships. She enjoyed traveling, especially in her motor home, to historical sites. She was a member of the Nine Mile Canyon Coalition to help preserve and protect the beautiful canyon, and made many friends within the group. She was an original Board Member of Elder Quest and enjoyed many years of continued education and travel.
She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Frances was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She shared her talents with the Relief Society and served as a Visiting Teacher, and Boy Scout Den Mother.
Frances continued to have a great love for music and at the age of 70 she and friends formed a band where she played the snare drum.
Frances had a love for Nature, especially Birds. Her yard became a sanctuary for many birds and creatures. She was entertained by bird watching out her front window and taught all that entered her home to do so as well, and, to respect all that God Created.
Frances' legacy lives on with her children, David Bowen, Provo, UT, Sheri Bowen, deceased, Edward Stuart, deceased (Reva Liddiard-Bowen)Washington, UT, James Todd Bowen, (Gina) Orem, UT, Kristine Bowen Christianson, (Al) Orem, UT, Tamari Bowen Hedger, Herriman, UT. Nine Grandchildren, and Nineteen Great Grandchildren.
Frances was preceded in death by husband, David S. Bowen, daughter, Sheri, Son, Edward. Her parents, sisters, Bonnie (Yvonne) Harding, (Eldon) Betty Jean Edwards and Glenna Rae Boshard, (Bliss).
A special note of loving gratitude for the care Frances and her family received from Hearts for Home Health Care. Addition heartfelt thanks to her Ward members, neighbors and friends.
A family visitation will be held at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, UT, on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., followed by Grave Side Service at 11:30 a.m., Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo, UT.
Rosary will be said on Monday Evening, July 6, 2020, at 7:30 P.M. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home in Orem.
