Obituary

On October 5, 2025, Frederick Milton Johnson peacefully left his mortal home, surrounded by his family. Fred was born on March 17, 1948, in Provo, Utah, to Milton Grant Johnson and Mildred Fry Johnson. As a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community servant, his life was a testament to love, hard work, and unwavering dedication and service to others.

Fred was raised in Provo until his family moved to Orem, Utah, where he met his eternal sweetheart, Lorraine (Hamby) Johnson. They were married on September 7, 1968, in Provo and later sealed in the Provo Utah Temple. Their 57 years of marriage were filled with joy, and at times, heartache, raising five children: Dana Lynn (Kevin) White of Spanish Fork, Utah, Jeffrey Todd Johnson of Orem, Utah, Bradley Milton (Carolina) Johnson of San Antonio, Texas, Gregory Frederick (Lisa) Johnson, of Salem, Utah, and Rebecca Vivian Johnson of Orem, Utah. Fred's legacy continues through his 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, including a grandson preparing to serve a mission in Omaha, Nebraska. His sons Bradley and Gregory served honorably in the United States Army, with deployments to Iraq (2004-2005) and Afghanistan (2008-2009), respectively. Bradley continues to serve as a Colonel in the United States Army.

He cherished holiday gatherings, always making his home a welcoming haven for family and friends. Known for his warmth and hospitality, Fred opened his heart and home to those from non-traditional backgrounds. He instilled virtues of hard work, family unity, and compassion through shared activities, work projects and service. His passion for the outdoors shone brightly, as he brought the joy of fishing, hunting, backpacking, and many other outdoor activities to his sons and others creating cherished memories which will last forever.

As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fred served an honorable mission to the British Isles. Fred served diligently in various scouting positions and ward leadership roles. His civic contributions were profound, including membership in the Eldridge Foundation, Orem Chamber of Commerce, and serving as a chapter president of the UAMI (Utah Alliance on Mental Illness). Fred was a tireless advocate for those facing mental health challenges, fighting bureaucratic barriers to provide support. His empathy for those suffering was endless. His service extended to many through delivering food, doing yardwork, taking elderly ward members to dinner and activities and many other acts of kindness.

Known for his playful spirit, Fred loved April Fools' pranks and teasing his siblings: Sharlene (Craig) Cordes, Donna (Wayne) Dexter, Gay (Russell) Young, Debi (Dix) Sorensen, and Tracy (Jackie) Johnson. His love for family and community was boundless.
