Obituary

Gabriele (Gabi) Ingeborg Blair age 76 of American Fork, Utah passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 1, 2023, after Battling with Dementia for several years. Gabi was born on August 18,1947 in Dortmund Germany to Johannes and Luise Baerthel. Gabi was the only girl and the oldest of 4 children. Gabi immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1956 when she was only 10 yrs. old and grew up in Maryland. Gabi had three brothers Hans Bernd (Bernie) Baerthel, Siegfred (Siggie) Baerthel and Winfred (Win) Baerthel. Win and Gabi were very close, and Gabi helped to care for and raise him when they were younger. Gabi and Win remained close and continued to stay in each other's lives as they got older. Gabi married James Blair on August 16, 1967. They had 2 children, Victoria, and Sean. They moved around from place to place and finally settled in Citrus Heights California. Her Husband James passed away in 1989 when her children were still young, and she never remarried. As her children got older and married, they moved away. Sean moved to Utah and Victoria settled in Texas for a while. Gabi moved to Brookings Oregon in 2005 and enjoyed her time there but missed her children and grandchildren.

Gabi later decided to move to Utah to be closer to her son Sean and Daughter in law Natasha and their children. Gabi truly enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and loved to spoil them. Gabi's granddaughter Keara would come visit her once a week and take her to breakfast and do her hair. This was truly a joy for Gabi and something she looked forward to each week. Her face truly lit up each time she saw Keara. Gabi also looked forward to her weekly Saturday breakfast with Sean and his family. Gabi liked to tease and would often tease her grandchildren and give them a hard time. Gabi was also a bit sassy which her grandchildren found amusing and would then tease her to try and get her to be sassy. Gabi loved sewing, canning, crocheting, reading, and gardening. Gabi's favorite thing to crochet was blankets. She made several for her children and grandchildren which they have cherished since they were babies. Gabi also loved animals, but cats were her favorite and she had several though out her life.

Gabi enjoyed spending time with her family and being outdoors. Gabi is proceeded in death by her husband James Blair and her parents Johannes and Luise Baerthel. Gabi is survived by her children, their spouses and her 6 grandchildren. Victoria and Steve Franklin (Kevin and Austin Scott). Sean and Natasha Blair (Keara, Tayler, and Aubrie Blair, Madison Grose). Gabi is also survived by her loving brother Win Baerthel whom she loved dearly. Gabi will be missed and was truly loved by those who knew her best. Our hearts are heavy at the loss of someone we loved so much but grateful to know she is at peace. There will be no services at this time, just a small remembrance with her family.
