Obituary

Gae Harward Olsen October 24, 1930 - July 2, 2021 Gae Harward Olsen passed away peacefully on July 2, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 90. We want to celebrate and honor the life of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born October 24, 1930, in Aurora, Utah, to Ozias Harvey Harward and Montez Bell Harward, the 6th of 13 children. She met her future husband, Jack D. Olsen, at sweet sixteen. She was introduced to Jack by her sister and brother-in-law. Jack and Gae wrote love letters while he served in the Merchant Marines and were married when he returned home on August 9, 1947. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple and have been happily married for over 65 years, raising 10 children. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many callings, but some of her favorites were ballroom dance instructor, primary music leader, and compassionate service leader. Over the years she did thousands of family history extractions and indexing work. She also enjoyed contributing through humanitarian service by crocheting leper bandages and winter hats, stuffing dolls, and braiding mats for refugee camps. Of all she accomplished in her life, she felt her greatest accomplishment was raising her ten children with her loving husband. Her happiness came in life through caring for her children and making them happy. There was always freshly baked bread, canned fruit and vegetables to enjoy. She sewed clothing for her children and their dolls, helped with homework and kept up with the busy schedule of daily life nurturing a large family. She taught her children the value of hard work by working alongside them. The greatest lessons her children learned were through her loving example. She loved spending time doing handwork, taking care of her flower and vegetable garden, and sewing. She continually improved her mind by reading the scriptures and other good books with her monthly family book club. But her greatest love was music. She sang with the Harward-Olsen sister trio at family gatherings, funerals and holiday celebrations. One of her favorite activities with Jack, her loving husband, was square-dancing. They danced for over 30 years with many great and wonderful life-long friends and family members. They traveled with the Sweetheart Chains club around the Western US and as far as New Zealand. Stated in her journal were, "things that make me smile are sunshine, family, music, square-dancing, good food and laughter. Gae was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her sweet daughter, Jackie. She is survived by her remaining nine children: Linda (Jay) Gregory, Gwen (Vaughn) Wilson, Vickie (Stephen) Rupp, Debbie (Mark) Hancock, Trudie (Derrick) Olsen-Curtis, Chris (Jodie) Olsen, Brad (Laura) Olsen, Jody (Jessica) Olsen, and Gaelene (Paul) Wadsworth, 38 grandchildren, 109 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 10 at 11:00 am at the Lindon Central Utah Stake Center at 56 E. 600 N. Lindon, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and on Saturday, July 10 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the same location. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills, 4800 N. 650 E.
