Obituary

Garry Evan Dymock of Orem, UT, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 18, 2021 surrounded by his family and holding the hand of his beloved wife Pat. Garry was born May 18, 1934 in Tooele, UT to John Irvin and Thelma Shields Dymock. He was the tenth child born into a very loving family. He was always proud of his six brothers and four sisters. He was very attentive to his special needs sister, Verna, and in later years served as her legal guardian. He loved her dearly. Raised in Tooele, he learned the value of hard work at a young age beginning with newspaper delivery and then early morning milk delivery to the Tooele residents. Due to his family being large, everyone was expected to help out and work to meet their many needs. Later, he worked at the Kennecott smelter where he earned enough money to pay for his college education. He then gave the rest of his paychecks to his father. Garry attended Tooele High School, followed by Utah State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. He later earned a Master's degree from the University of Utah in Management-Manpower Administration. His schooling was temporatry interrupted when he received a special call to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Australia during the Korean War. During this time only two young men were allowed by the Government to serve from each stake. Garry was blessed to be one of those to be called and to serve. Upon his return, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was always proud to have been a Marine. On April 26, 1957, he married Patsy Ruth Maughan in the Logan LDS Temple. Following their marriage, they lived in Oceanside, CA while he completed his Marine Corps service. After he was honorably discharged from the service, he returned to Logan to complete his education. While at Utah State University he worked as the Head Resident at Richards Hall, a men's dormitory of 360 young men. Following graduation, Garry moved his family to Bountiful, Utah where he was employed at Thiokol Chemical Corporation. He then worked for the U.S. Government as a Contracts Administrator in Salt Lake City. He negogiated Government contracts throughout the United States during the Vietnam War. Later he worked in real estate and earned many top awards in that profession. During these years, Garry and Pat were blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter. Garry was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served in many callings including as counselor to his Australian Mission President, a counselor in several Bishoprics, Bishop, stake high councilor, and in later years as Branch President of a local care center. One of his greatest joys while Bishop was working with the Boy Scout of America Program and helping the boys achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He throughly loved the youth of the church and was pleased to have 27 young men and women serving missions all at the same time. He also spent many hours with the youth, coaching little league teams, twice winning championships. Later in life, Garry and Pat served two senior missions for the Church, first in the New York, New York South Mission and then a temple mission in the Philippines Manila Temple. They also loved serving as temple workers in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple for many years. Traveling was a joy to them and they had the opportunity to visit Hawaii, Mexico, Eygpt, and many countries in Europe. They especially loved their tour of the Holy Land. Garry is survived by his wife and eternal companion Patsy Ruth Maughan and their four children: Paul (Shirlene}, Orem, UT, Matthew Gregg (Jeni} Anson, TX, Patsy Jill (Doug} Mequon, WI and Garry Edward "Ted" (Cindee} Spanish Fork, UT, 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and one sister Karen (Tad} Benell, Salt Lake City, UT.
