Obituary

Gary Daniel Peay was reunited with his eternal sweetheart, O'leah Garlick, on May 26th, 2022. Gary was born to Leslie and Cleone Peay on August 24th, 1936, in Provo, Utah. He joined his sister Marge and was later followed by his sisters, Carol, Nyleen, Anne, Linda, and his brother Larry Paul. It was in this home he learned to love the Gospel and the value of hard work on the farm. He loved his sisters and brother dearly. He loved to introduce his little brother Paul to others, who was over a foot taller than himself.

Gary graduated from Provo High School and attended BYU. He served an honorable mission to Northern California from September of 1956 to December of 1958. The experiences he had on his mission shaped the remainder of his life and had an effect on many who listened to his many remarkable experiences.

On July 10th, 1959, Gary married the love of his life, O'leah Ann Garlick in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The greatest joys of Gary's life were his family and his faith. They welcomed seven children into their home. Their home was built upon the foundations of the Gospel, faith, hard work, service, and love.

Gary loved spending time in the mountains with his boy's riding horses, hunting and fishing. His daughters filled his heart with joy. He loved car rides to get ice cream and a good water fight in the backyard. Whatever he did in life, his family was by his side. He took pride in all they did in life. Cherished experiences with his 7 children, 39 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren have always been a priority.

Gary loved to serve others. He would drop everything to help someone in need, often giving them all that he had. The hard work he learned on the family farm paid off as Gary worked as a Milkman, Police Officer, Brick Mason and with Geneva Steel. He worked hard each day to provide for his family. Gary and O'leah had a large yard that he loved to care for. He could often be found working outside. He never stopped working. Gary loved his BYU Football and Basketball.

Gary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith and testimony of the Gospel was firm. Gary spent his life in the service of others. Being able to help others was his delight. He served in numerous positions in the church, including Stake Patriarch. He loved this calling and cherished each blessing. Many of his grandkids were privileged to be blessed by him. He loved going to the Temple and his joy was doubled when his kids and grandkids attended with him.

Gary is survived by his siblings, Margie Woolsten, Carol (Merrill) Johnson, Nyleen (Miles) Batty, Anne Belhasen, Larry Paul (Leslie) Peay. His devoted children, Stephanie (Jeff) Hunt, Scott Peay, Kevin (Shellie) Peay, Christian (Margo) Peay, Todd (Florence) Peay, Amy (Ron) Abram and Stacy (Joshua) Jones, 37 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, O'leah, whom he never stopped missing, his sister Linda, and grandchildren Adam and Amanda Hunt.

The impact of Gary's life is unmeasurable. The love he has for his family goes beyond the veil. He will be greatly missed by his family. Thanks go to Amy and Ron Abram for their tender care during Gary's last days. Special thanks to the Hadfield, Johnson, Harms and McGrath family who added so much to Gary's life with their friendship, service, and love. He cherished each one of them and counted them as part of his family.
