Obituary

Gene Conder Powell passed away at the age of 90 on January 24, 2019, surrounded by family. Gene was married to his sweetheart Sara Renae Eldredge Powell for 63 years. Together they raised 8 children, were blessed with 23 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. Gene was born in Logan, Utah to Harold and Bessie Powell. His family moved to Salt Lake City where Gene grew up. He served in the Eastern States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and later served in the army during the Korean War. Gene earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from Brigham Young University. While at BYU, Gene met his beautiful wife Renae. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1955. The following year they moved to Anaheim, California, where they raised their family. Gene worked for Hughes Aircraft as a Senior Systems Engineer. After retiring, Gene and Renae moved to Orem, Utah, where he continued to be a great influence on his growing family. Gene set a great example of unselfish service; he loved to serve others. He served in varying capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His testimony of Jesus Christ blessed the lives of many. A viewing will be held February 1, 2019, at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N. Orem, Utah, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. An additional viewing will be held prior to the funeral on February 2, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 810 E. 600 N. Orem, Utah. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at the Orem City Cemetery.
