Obituary

"I saw the Eifel Tower, Great Pyramid of Giza, Parthenon in Greece, Colosseum in Italy, hiked the Great Wall in China, soaked in the Dead Sea, saw the pyramids in Mexico, fished in Alaska, sailed into Sydney Harbor, and walked around Red Square. I'd seen it all, so I decided to go home."

George Harry Collard

April 11, 1943 – September 29, 2023

Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George Harry Collard age 80, passed away at his home on Friday, September 29, 2023.

George was born April 11, 1943, to Gordon Elmer Collard and Rea Zell Collard. George grew up in Provo, Utah and graduated from Provo High School.

George married Marylin Hickenlooper on December 4, 1964. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 59 years. George was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities. George and his wife, Marylin, served an inner-city mission in Salt Lake City, Utah.

George loved to visit and made friends wherever he went. His last church calling was serving at the Jordan Valley hospital where he provided church services for patients and workers. He held this calling for 10 years. The perfect calling for a man who liked to talk.

George worked for Smith's Food & Drug for 45 years as a meat cutter, supervisor, and meat broker.

George was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time on "The Mountain," at the family cabin.

At Christmas time George and Marylin became known as Mr. and Mrs. Claus and brightened the homes of many with presents, candy canes and storytelling.

George is survived by his wife, Marylin. His daughters: Shauna Collard Bagley, and Denise (Rick) Franco; his son: Travis Collard; grandchildren: Lauren (Nate R. Jones), Mitchell B. Bagley (Katy), Alexis Bagley, Nathan C. Franco, Andrew E. Franco and Rachel Franco; and great-grandchild: Miles M. Bagley; his siblings: Leland G. Collard, Christine (Harvey) Hansgen, and Glade E. (Jan) Collard. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Colleen Nabaum, and son, Jason H. Collard.
