IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Georgia Elga
Teichert
July 28, 1936 – December 23, 2022
Georgia Elga Larsen Teichert passed away Friday, December 23rd at her home in Orem. She was born on July 28, 1936 in her childhood home in her hometown of Ephraim, Utah. She grew up in Ephraim, graduating from Snow High School and Snow College, where she became an accomplished actress, appearing in a number of plays. Her experiences acting began a lifelong love affair with the theater.
Georgia attended Utah State University and starred in a number of plays and graduated Phi Kappa Phi (top 10 percent) with her degree in elementary education. Later on, she also acted in a number of plays in Salt Lake City. She taught kindergarten in Anaheim, California and Salt Lake City before returning to school at Brigham Young University where she earned a Master's Degree in Special Education.
Georgia continued her teaching career after receiving her Master's degree, teaching kindergarten at Scera Park Elementary School in Orem, Utah. Georgia left teaching in 1967 when her first child was born. She went back to teaching after her family was raised and taught several years, finishing her career at Scera Park Elementary more than 30 years after leaving that school for the first time.
While pursuing her master's degree, Georgia met R. Burke Teichert, and the couple was married on July 2, 1966 in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
For the first 11 years of their marriage, they moved frequently as Burke developed his career. In that 11-year period they lived in Orem, Utah; Provo, Utah; Laramie, Wyoming; Watertown, Wisconsin; Modesto, California; El Centro, California; and Kennewick, Washington. In 1977, they settled in Orem, Utah, where Georgia would live the rest of her life.
Georgia was a devoted mother to four sons and two daughters. Four served Church missions. Five graduated from college. Two have doctorate degrees. Four became eagle scouts. She nursed one son through a courageous battle with cancer before his death at age 17. She had 23 grandchildren who she loved dearly and, so far, one great-grandchild.
Georgia sacrificed a lot of time in her best years running kids around to activities, making sure they had a good breakfast before school, and that her family ate dinner together almost every evening.
Georgia was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She served in many callings but, having the heart of a teacher and a love for children, she was often called to teach primary.
Georgia is survived by her husband Burke of Orem, Utah, three sons: Jeff (Cathy) of Layton, Utah, Russ (Margaret) of Sandy, Utah, and Kent (Lisela) of Clinton, Utah; and two daughters, Tonia (Jeremy) Hatch of Taylor, Arizona and Christy (Brandon) Cummings of Fillmore, Utah; 23 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her son Errol, her parents, Calvert and Elga Larsen, her brothers Calvert Therald Larsen and Kim Larsen, and her grandson, Henry Teichert.
