Obituary

Gerald White Ashworth, 98, passed away October 19, 2023, in Orem, Utah. He was born July 2, 1925 in Beaver, Utah to John Ashworth and Vera Campbell Ashworth. He was welcomed by his older sister Beth on her 2nd birthday. Jerry attended school in Beaver and worked on his father's farm. Jerry was drafted the day after he turned 18 and served in the Army in the Pacific Theater. Dad came home with Malaria and was traveling by train from San Francisco to a hospital in Colorado when took a slight detour and picked up my mom in Beaver, they went to Nevada and got married in a little farm house by the Justice of the Peace. Dad then got back on the on the train the next day and headed to Colorado. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

When dad was released from the hospital mom and dad moved to Cedar City and he attended college there. He played basketball and football for the college. He worked various jobs while going to school but was approached to work at a grocery store. He took the job so he didn't have to travel and leave his family. That was the start of a wonderful career. First he was with Safeway and then he started with Albertson's. He loved his employees and customers and many young kids worked for him over the years.

After dad's retirement they spent their winters in Yuma, Az. They both loved dancing and would dance everyday somewhere.

He worked at the Timpanogos Temple and also as a guide at the Provo tabernacle. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in callings into his 90's.

You couldn't have asked for a better dad. He truly was one of the greatest generation. He loved family, God and Country.

Dad is survived by his son James (Cheryl) of Orem and his daughter Connie (Lynn) Williams of Orem, nine Grandchildren, nineteen Great-Grandchildren and six Great-Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents, and his siblings Beth, Don, Leon, and Fay, also by his son Richard. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law Mark Payne.

We appreciate the kindness shown to us and dad from the staff at Covington. We are grateful for the service rendered to dad from Renew Hospice, especially his special nurse Cassie. We love her for her tender care of dad.
