Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Gerald James Meuter. Jerry, as he liked to be called, returned to his Heavenly Father on March 23, 2025. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love, service, and faith lives on in the lives of all he touched. We find comfort in knowing that through his dedication to the gospel, he is now reunited with loved ones in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

Jerry was born June 20, 1936 to Frances Lucille McCahill and Allan James Meuter in Oakland, California. Jerry grew up with a love for learning and had a strong work ethic. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 7, 1953. He graduated from San Leandro High School in June 1954 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business and Industrial Management from California State University in 1973.

On May 28, 1977, Jerry married the love of his life, Karen Kay Hales in Pleasanton, California. Together, they built a life full of love, joy, and devotion. On November 12, 1982, Jerry adopted Karen's children Jeff, Joel, and Jennifer, and their family was sealed together in the Washington D.C. Temple that same year. His love for his children and their family bond was a testament to his deep faith and commitment to eternal principles. Jerry's life was a testament to faith, love, and service.

Jerry had a strong testimony of temple and family history work. It wasn't just a hobby but a sacred calling and responsibility he cherished. He would seek out family members, friends, and neighbors to help complete the temple work for his ancestors, whom he cared so deeply about. We are sure he had a great reunion as he returned home and was welcomed by all of those he served through his temple work here on earth.

Jerry and Karen shared a deep love for gardening, and together cultivated a beautiful yard filled with flowers, lush greenery, a vegetable garden, several fruit trees, and vines. They were kind and always shared in their abundance, giving neighbors and friends fruit, vegetables, and various plants and flowers to beautify their own yards. Their love for gardening could be summarized with the quote by Thoreau, "A taste for the beautiful is most cultivated out of doors."

Jerry was joyful and loved ice cream! His favorite flavors were Huckleberry and Bunny Tracks. No matter the occasion, you could always count on Jerry to say, "Let's have some ice cream!" There was nothing he enjoyed more than sharing a bowl of ice cream with those he loved. He also enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles. Jerry had a great sense of humor and a real love for life.

He is survived by his wife Karen Hales Meuter, 3 children Jeff (Teresa) Meuter, Mableton, Georgia; Joel (Patti) Meuter, Woodland Hills, Utah; and Jennifer Meuter, Pleasant Grove, Utah. His grandchildren Heather Meuter, Tyler (Jodi) Meuter, Madison (Josh) Adamson, Jacob Meuter, Abby Parry, Savannah Parry, Elizabeth Meuter, Emily Meuter, and Evan Meuter, and great

great-grandchildren Zaniyah Meuter and Jett Adamson, and one sister, Patricia Frances Meuter Brown.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Zachary Joel Meuter, his parents, and brother Robert Meuter, and his in-laws Arthur William Hales and Ruth Athleen Jackson Hales.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on April 19, 2025, at 10 am at 1541 N 1300 W, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062. The family will also be holding a burial service at the Ogden Cemetery.
