Obituary

Glen Roy Richardson completed his earthly mission and died the evening of November 20 in his home in Vineyard, Utah. He was born May 30, 1941 to Wendall H. Richardson and Maude Tilda Heigis Richardson in Grand Junction, Colorado. His family moved to Ogden, Utah when he was a teenager and he went to Ogden High School.

Glen was a very gifted and talented athlete placing second in state championships in wrestling and first in pole vault during his high school years. As a standout football player, he helped his high school team secure a state championship in 1958. He then attended Brigham Young University on a football scholarship. He was also a Golden Glove boxer and later in life an avid marathon runner. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Brigham Young University. He then served a full-time mission in the South Africa Mission from 1963-65 and served as assistant to the president. He worked for seventeen years in sales for Bucyrus-Erie becoming National Field Sales Manager, and subsequently becoming a financial manager.

Glen met his sweetheart, Heather, in 1971 and they were married in 1972. As he remarked on countless occasions to any and all in his presence, his marriage to her was the best decision of his life. He shared his adoration and gratitude for her any chance he could. His love for her, his sons, their wives, his grandchildren and great grandson had no bounds. They were the focus of his life and love. His affection for all children defined him, as can be attested by his adoring grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Glen's devotion to the Savior and to the church spanned his entire life. In his senior years he served a second mission with his wife, Heather, in Kenya from 2012-14. Upon their return from their mission, he and Heather founded the The Shamba Foundation, a non-profit to care for the dire needs of the children in Kenya.

He was generous in spirit and warm and welcoming to all which made service in the church and to his fellowman a natural extension of himself. He was the first to volunteer for any and all calls for service. He served in the bishopric, Elder's Quorum president, High Priest group leader, and seminary teacher. But the calling he loved most was within the temple. He was honored to serve as a temple ordinance worker for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gene Donald Richardson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Heather Lawrence Richardson, sons Drew Richardson Johnson (Joanna), Ren Matthew Richardson, Joshua Broc Richardson (Kelle), Sisters Shirley Rizley, Sharon Richardson, Carole Bigham (Kent), twelve grandchildren and one great grandson.
