Grace Williamson Austin age 85 passed away Monday January 25, 2021 after a short illness. Born in Provo Utah to Ernal Williamson and Mabel Meacham. Grace was the youngest of two brothers and three sisters.
Grace was raised in Vineyard where her family owned a small family farm. She worked hard on the family farm, and would often speak of the times she spent working in the fields thinning beets.
She loved and enjoyed animals of all kinds. She would ride the family cow as if it were a horse. Finally one day, her father bought her a horse whom she named Dolly. She fancied herself as somewhat of a trick pony rider; she would spend hours riding Dolly, oftentimes standing on her back. Her closest friend was a dog named Vicky. She loved her dog with all her heart, and when Vicky left this world due to cancer she would not get out of bed for three days.
In her early years she enjoyed art and had a talent for drawing (a gift which she inherited from her father). She enjoyed singing and camping and the outdoors. Grace was a woman of courage and action and didn't shy away from a challenge; she even took flying lessons and loved it!
She married Greg Austin Jr. and raised her family of three sons Dwayne, David and Dale in Portland Oregon where she lived for 18 years.
Grace had a heart like no other. She was kind and loving, and was always willing to help where she could. She loved her neighbors. She often took baked items to her neighbors even when her arthritis would cause her great pain- but she would never show her suffering. Her home was often the neighborhood playhouse where kids would come to swim in the family pool and enjoy each other's company.
She suffered Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years. Her pain restricted her ability to work. Rather than giving in to her condition, she chose to redirect her time and attention towards study- as a result, she developed a deep love of reading. She spent most of her latter days reading and studying the gospel. Grace loves the gospel, and has a deep relationship with her Savior Jesus Christ.
Grace's declining years were spent at Orchard Park nursing and Rehabilitation center. While there she made many friends, and touched the lives of many people. She spent her time at Orchard Park in relative comfort, and was very affectionate with the staff there.
She is preceded in death by mother and father, her sisters LaVon Harward, Belva Hamilton, and her brother Clyde Williamson. Grace is survived by three sons and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition, Grace is survived by one brother (Harold Willimason) and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday Feb. 2, 2021 at the Chapel located at 1000 North Main St, Orem Utah at 11:00am. A viewing will be held 1 hr. prior to the services where friends and family may call.
Grace Austin- a queen among women! We love you and will miss you deeply. Until we meet again at Jesus' feet may we ever strive to follow your example!
FYI: Grace Austin won the hottest legs of the year contest in Lincoln Highschool in Orem! (man is she going to let me have it someday for throwing this in here!)
