Guadalupe Mendez Warren passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 12, 2022. She was born on February 27, 1933, to Manuel del Carmen Mendez and Amalia Alcantar in Calexico, California.
Lupe would cross the border every weekday to attend school in Mexico through 6th grade. She was the eldest of 11 children and after 6th grade she left school to work in the fields and orchards to help support her family. She later completed her GED. When she was 20, she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission for her church in the Mexico City Mission beginning in 1956.
She married her sweetheart, Orval Ray Warren in the Mesa Temple on June 13, 1962, and had four children, Annette, Debbie, Ron, and Stephanie.
She was an avid reader, loved movies and crossword puzzles and was known to be extremely competitive while playing boardgames. She was a wonderful cook and learned to skillfully cook many southern dishes introduced to her by her husband who was from Missouri.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an influence for good to those who knew her.
Lupe was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; brothers, Francisco, and Juan; sisters, Dora, Irma, Carmen, and Amalia; and granddaughter, Emily.
She is survived by her children Annette Barnes (Kelly), Debbie Wawro (Patrick), Ron Warren (Brenda), and Stephanie Buffington (Mark); 18 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Mary, and brothers, Vincent, Nephi, and Lehi; all of whom miss her dearly.
The viewing will take place Saturday, October 22nd from 10 – 10:45 AM and funeral services will follow at 11 AM at the Orem Sharon 3rd Ward building, 730 East 400 South, Orem, Utah.
Interment will be at the Orem Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home.
