Heinz Okolowitz
1928 - 2021
After a long struggle with cancer, Heinz Okolowitz passed away at the age of 93 surrounded by his family at his residence in Orem, Utah on September 22, 2021 at 12:53 pm.
Heinz was born on January 28, 1928 to Friedrich and Anna (Stamm) Okolowitz, in Dietrichsdorf, Gerdauen, East Prussia, Germany. He married his loving wife, Hanna Runschke on October 20, 1951 in Stuttgart, Germany and was sealed to her in the Los Angeles Temple in 1964. He worked doing farming and mechanics at an early age, was drafted into the Glider Club of the German military at age 17, worked in France as a mechanic, learned high-pressure welding in Germany, immigrated to America in 1954, worked at U.S. Steele as a welder, worked in real estate, and owned seven apartments that helped house low-income families. After raising his family, he earned an Associate of Arts degree in Welding at Utah Valley College. His creativity, expert welding and mechanical skills, and thirst for knowledge were unmatched, making him self-sufficient in many ways. This brought much comfort and security to the family.
He loved reading, religion, spirituality, philosophy, and helping others in self-less ways, which helped shape his family, making them great listeners and instilling in them a desire to be of service to others. He also loved to swim and spend quality time with his family, bringing everyone closer to nature and each other. His quiet strength and confidence carried on to his family.
Heinz is survived by his wife, Hanna and their beloved children: Brigitte (Dan) Little, Julita (Mike) Killpack, Evelyn (Jerry) Lewis, Andre (Judy) Okolowitz, Heidi (Matt) Cresswell, Doris (Ty) Ragsdale, and Carlo (Tina) Okolowitz. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and his brother Willi. His death is preceded by his parents, Friedrich and Anna (Stamm) Okolowitz, 10 of 11 of his siblings, his son, Peter, and 1 grandchild, Kayden.
