Obituary

Helen Farnsworth Sharp Dunning, 82, of Saratoga Springs, passed away May 8th, 2023. She was born November 19, 1940, in Rexburg, Idaho, the youngest of three daughters, to G. Kent and Mary Heath Farnsworth. The family moved to Boise, Idaho, when Helen was an infant. Three younger brothers would complete the family in Boise.

After graduation from Boise High School, 1958, Helen attended BYU, meeting impressive Milton Sharp her junior year. They were married in the Manti Temple February 1, 1963. Three daughters, Shellee, Sheryl, Sydney, and a son, Scott, would complete the Sharp Family. After 37 years of marriage, Milton passed away with pancreatic cancer.

Helen graduated from BYU, taught kindergarten at Challenger School in Orem, followed by accepting the position as Director of Challenger School. Following six years at Challenger, she served as the secretary at Orem High Seminary 19 years, followed by serving as the secretary at BYU Seminary Training. She served in CES for 22 years. Following retirement, she returned to Challenger School to serve two additional years. She received a mission call in 2008 to serve in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission. Upon returning home, she served in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.

Helen loved being a Mother to her four children and Grandmother to 13. Family was foremost and most essential to her. Annual Neighborhood parades and Christmas hayrides were evidence of her serving others in neighborhood events and making memories. Music has always been a major part of her life and she has shared her piano talents continuously over many years. Her church service began in her teen-age years and devoted church service has been an indispensable part of her life.

During Helen's service at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple, Tom Dunning came back into her life. Helen and Tom had dated 50 years previously during her sophomore year at BYU. They were married July 13, 2012. Together they served a mission in the New Jersey Morristown Mission and had amazing, fulfilling years together before Tom passed away with kidney failure.

Helen is survived by her four children, Shellee (Randall) Haws, Sheryl (Scott) Wilkinson, Scott (Kristi Chabries) Sharp, and Sydney (David) King, as well as Tom's four children and their families. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, one sister and two brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a sister, a brother, and two nieces.
