Obituary

HELEN BARDSLEY MCDONALD 1931 – 2021 Helen Bardsley McDonald, 90 of Orem, passed away in her sleep in the early morning of Sunday, August 8, 2021. Helen was born July 17, 1931 to Joseph Vearl and Daisy Dean Madsen Bardsley in Centerfield, UT. Mom attended schools in Gunnison & Centerfield and graduated from Gunnison High in 1949. She met, dated and later married Norman Charles McDonald on May 2, 1949, a couple of weeks before she graduated high school. In 1957, she and Dad were sealed in the St. George Temple. Mom and Dad moved to Salt Lake City, UT shortly after their marriage. Dad was in trade school for diesel mechanics and later worked for Wheeler Machinery in SLC. Mom stayed home having children, keeping up their various little homes and caring for babies; four born in SLC, Norm, Dennis, Lynnette & Roger. The family moved to Panguitch, UT, summer 1955, where two more children were born, Kent & Kelly. Dad worked as a mechanic for the logging mill trucks. Later, following the road construction jobs, they moved to Flagstaff, AZ for about a year. In Flagstaff, the youngest child, Kelly died in an accident; she was just shy of two years old. Shortly after this, Dad & Mom moved us to Kanab, UT for about a year. While living there, Dad worked as a mechanic on the dam over the Colorado River building what would eventually be called Lake Powell. They did move back to Panguitch in 1960 for a couple of years although Dad took a hit on the paycheck; but Kelly Jae was buried there. Shortly after this move back to Panguitch, Mom & Dad adopted the first child of three, Cornell. In 1962, Dad's new job at W.W. Clyde's diesel shop in Springville, UT instigated a move of the family once again. A few short years later, Mom and Dad adopted two more children, the girls, Angie and Janus. And many years later, they adopted the youngest, Kent Cameron (Kace); after moving to Orem, UT. Mom was devoted to family. Her laugh was infectious; her bright red lipstick kisses on all her many grandkids were famous or maybe infamous, depending on which grandkid you ask. Mom loved to laugh and later, as her hearing and health had gotten worse, she still managed to laugh at herself and through it all, she always cherished her very large family; and of course, her dogs. With Mom, genetics had nothing to do with family. She would instantly love and care for any new mixed family that came along. Dad had the same feeling for family up until he passed away shortly before their 60th anniversary in 2009. At the time of her death, Mom had more than 30 grandchildren with nearly twice that number when counting those grandchildren with spouses. Over 60 great grandchildren and over 35 2Xgreat grandchildren. Mom was extremely proud of her large family legacy; although she nor the rest of us could never accurately count all of them. Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Verl & Daisy Bardsley, her husband Norman, her son Cornell and daughters, Janus & Kelly Jae. She is survived by her children Norm (Shaunee) McDonald, Dennis (Lauri) McDonald, Lynnette (Bob) Jewell, Roger (Marie) McDonald, Kent (Elaine) McDonald, Angela 'Angie' Nelson, Kent Cameron 'Kace' McDonald. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, no viewing will be held. Interment will be in Springville Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East, Springville, UT. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.walkersanderson.com.
