IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Anita
Morton
April 30, 1934 – June 22, 2025
Helen Anita Schmitt Morton
Helen Morton passed away on June 22, 2025 in Cedar Hills, Utah at the age of 91 from the effects of age.
Helen was born on April 30, 1934 in Salt Lake City to Edward and Helen Schmitt, and joined her elder brother Chuck to complete a close-knit family that included grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins living nearby.
Growing up during the depression and World War II, with a German surname and in a community not of her Lutheran tradition presented challenges, but Helen proved to be resilient. She graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City in 1952 and later graduated from Henegar Business College with a degree specializing in secretarial skills and office management.
Helen married John Evans in 1955 and moved to Pleasant Hill, California, where she gave birth to her son Ryan and daughter Sharlene. Helen and John divorced in 1963. Helen worked as an office manager for a dental practice while raising her family as a single mom. She lived in the house she bought in Pleasant Hill for more than 50 years.
In 1967, Helen married the love of her life, Paul Morton. Helen was greatly blessed with the wonderful relationship she had with her bonus daughter, Susan. Paul adored Helen and the two enjoyed a rich life together. They traveled, entertained, participated in public service and doted over their grandchildren. They especially enjoyed spending vacations at their timeshares in Escondido and Palm Springs.
In 2007 Helen and Paul sold their Pleasant Hill home and moved to Provo, Utah to be closer to Ryan and Sharlene and their children. When Paul passed away in 2012, Helen continued to live in their Provo Condo, surrounded by old and new friends. In 2013, Helen accepted an invitation from friends to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She remained an active member throughout the remainder of her life.
Helen is survived by her brother, Charles Schmitt (Grace) and her daughter Sharlene Evans (Brian), her step-daughter Susan McMillan, daughter-in-law Kim Evans and a posterity of 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren. Helen's first great-great grandchild is due in October.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Philip Schmitt and Helen Gehrmann Schmitt, her beloved husband Paul Morton, her son Ryan Evans, and her son-in-law Michael McMillan.
