Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend, Helen Marie Johnson Shields,
passed away peacefully in her home in Orem,Utah, on the evening of January 16th 2022, after
a courageous battle with cancer.
Helen was born on July 13, 1952, in Los Angeles, California, to Joseph and Winifred Johnson.
She was the fourth of six children, the family's beloved "Sissy". They lived in Lennox, California,
where they enjoyed growing up surrounded by extended family. One of her greatest moments
came in 1969, when she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with her brother
and sister.
In 1971, she met the eternal love of her life, Dennis Shields, and they were later married on
August 3,1973, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Helen treasured her role as wife and mother
and was the most loving, supportive, and adoring grandma to her grandchildren, (Alexa,
Cydney, Jenna, Peyton, Rachel, Alex, Seth, Natalie and Ethan) who were her pride and joy.
She worked at FHP, and later at University of Utah Healthcare,as a receptionist. Her passion for
those she helped was infectious and people loved to see her for their visits. She was a faithful
member of the church, and with her love of music and beautiful voice she found great joy in
leading the music in Relief Society and singing in the ward choir. She also enjoyed her time
serving as the ward librarian.
She is survived by her husband Dennis, her children Travis (Amanda) Shields, Crystal (Steve)
Lee, Eric (Carol Ann) Shields, and Justin (Katie) Shields, her nine grandchildren, and her
siblings Janice Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Marvin Jonson, and Jean Clement. She was
preceded in death by her parents and her sister Linda Camacho.
Funeral Services will be held at the LDS church on 670 E 800 N Orem, Utah on Friday January
21st at 11 AM. Interment will immediately follow at the Orem City Cemetery. The services will
be broadcast on the Walker Sanderson webpage and be available for on demand viewing
afterward.
A public viewing will also be held at the church on Thursday evening between 6 and 8 PM and
again on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM for all those who wish to attend.
The family welcomes memorial donations in Helen's name to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in
