Obituary

Herman Nathaniel Slaughter was born September 15, 2013, proud to carry the names of his great-grandfather and father. At home, he was also known as "Herm," "Hermanito," "Herman-boy," "Hermanater," and "Trailblazer Herman." Herman was blessed with parents who brought out his fun-loving, friendly personality. He had a quality of quiet confidence that only comes from a loving home. His brothers were his best friends; they had fun whenever they were together. He especially loved playing sports and camping with his family. He took pride in the fact that he always caught so many fish, and that he could out-hike anyone in his family. Herman's mom and dad diligently nurtured his spirit. They read together often, especially from the scriptures. As a result, this sweet boy loved to learn. Herman was a hard worker. Helping was fun, and he was eager to be involved.   Herman's brothers and cousins knew that he always made everything more fun—if nothing else, because his laughter was so infectious. He loved to play a rough game of football, got a kick out of being a tease, and found intentional ways to be kind. He was excited to be where the fun was, but also totally content to curiously venture in his own world. In the winters, he loved to ski at Sundance with his family and sled down the snow forts his dad built. He was everything a little boy ought to be. Herman knew that his Heavenly Father loved him, and continues to teach us that we have a loving Father in Heaven who is more aware of us than we sometimes realize. Herman is survived by his parents: Nathaniel and Sarah (Bedke) Slaughter, three brothers: Henry, Theodore, and Jedediah, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. Herman cared about his brothers. He loved his family. And, as Herman would say, "That's all." The Slaughter family would like to thank the countless family members, friends, and kind individuals in the community who have been a support to them during this time.
