IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Iona Nielsen
Green
January 4, 1928 – September 24, 2022
Iona Nielsen Green
January 4,1928 - September 24,2022
Iona Nielsen Green passed from this mortal life on September 24,2022 at 94 years to join her beloved husband, William B. Green. Born January 4, 1928, the eighth child in the family of ten, to James Eugene Nielsen and Lillian Russell in Provo, Utah. She graduated from Provo High School in 1946 where she spent some of her happiest days of her childhood and made lifelong friends. She met "Bill" when she was 14 and they were high school sweethearts. After graduation, she worked for Mountain Fuel Supply Company in Provo. She married Bill on June,14,1948 in the Salt Lake Temple by President Joseph Fielding Smith. Her happy life revolved around her husband of 64 years, 7 children, 32 grandchildren, and 59 great grandchildren. If there was an award for the "Best Supporting Spouse ", Iona would win. She was a gracious and kind hostess, went on three week fishing trips living in a tent with 7 children almost every summer, watch countless sporting events, baked, cooked, and kept a clean organized house. Iona lived 30 years raising her family in Escondido, California where she made many wonderful friends. She loved to bake bread and made delicious cinnamon rolls. Every Christmas she would bake cinnamon rolls for her friends and family. This tradition is still carried on by her children today. Iona loved the Lord and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served with compassion in many callings in her life and also supported her husband with his callings. She served with her husband from 1986 to 1989 as Mission President in the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission. In 1992, Bill was called to serve as First Counselor to President Arthur Anderson in the Provo Temple presidency and Iona was called to be the Assistant Matron. She loved serving in temple and had several choice experiences and blessings. Her love for missionary and temple work increased her testimony of the Lord. She has been a tremendous example to her family and friends and her legacy will live on through her children.
