Obituary

Irvin Joseph Moore, 87 of Provo, Utah passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children after a courageous battle with cancer and dementia. He is survived by his wife (married 65 years), Jeanette Loosle Moore, and children: Annette (Ted) Gwilliam, Alan (Tamra) Moore, Douglas (Marie) Moore, Cheryl (Steve) Brayton, Kathleen Moore, 28 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his three sisters: Arleen (Don, deceased) Fulton, Ruthie (Paul) Greenhalgh, and Dorothy (Phil) Johnson. Irv was born in Logan, Utah on July 3, 1934, to Francis Irvin Moore and Vesta Schaub. He grew up in Tremonton, Utah and his family moved to Logan when he was 14. He helped at the family grocery store. He attended Utah State University where he met and married his sweetheart, Jeanette Loosle, in 1956 in the Logan Utah Temple. Irv joined the ROTC and served in the Army at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. After receiving his master's degree from Washington State University, he was a professor at Everett Community College where he taught biological sciences for 34 years. He was honored to receive three National Science Foundation fellowships. Irv and Jeanette loved spending time with family and raising their five children in Everett, Washington where he enjoyed supporting his children in their activities including music, scouts, and sports. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, scuba diving, radio-controlled airplanes/boats, and model rockets/trains. He especially enjoyed observing insects and all things that pertain to marine biology in the Pacific Northwest. Irv retired in 1996 and moved to Payson, Utah to be closer to family. He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life, especially enjoying teaching and scouting. Irv and Jeanette served two missions: Frankfurt Germany Temple (1999-2000) and in the Arizona Tucson Mission office (2004-2005). Irv was kind, funny, smart, loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He will be greatly missed and we can't wait until we see him again.
