Jackson R. Bracken, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and Brother, passed away on March 1, 2018, after knowing he had stage 4 liver cancer for only 4 days. Even though losing him so fast was such a shock, God has given Jack and his entire family such a blessing that he did not have to suffer long. Jack was born on February 14, 1946, the first child of Reid J. Bracken and Saxon Barbara Christofferson in Salt Lake City Utah and raised his entire young life in Tooele Utah. Jack has 3 brothers, Greg Bracken (Jo), Tooele UT, Vern Bracken (Vickie), Tooele UT, Brad Bracken (Neva) Grantsville UT and one Sister Barbara Bracken Grantsville, UT. Three sister in-laws, Linda Snyder, Tooele Utah, LaVee Williams, Orem UT, and Colleen Richards, West Valley UT, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, a young niece Jenny, and many brother and sister in-laws. Jack Married Patricia Ann Williams Lash August 18, 1982, they lived in Tooele Utah until their retirements from the Tooele Army Depot in 1996 and then made their home in Orem Utah to be close to their Children. Jack was only retired for 4 days, then went to work for Orem City as a building Inspector in 1996 until 2010 when he retired a second time. He loved Orem and the many people in the city that he worked with there. Jack has two sons, from a previous marriage, Robert Bracken and Laramie Reid Bracken, (Paula) both from Las Vegas and four Step Children, Rose RaChell Loveland (Bryan), Orem UT, Tracy Lynn McFarland (Rick), Marriot UT, Tricia Ann Funes (Lee), Lindon Utah and Woodrow James Lash (Angie), Stansbury Park UT. Thirteen Grandchildren, and one great grandchild that will always be the love of his life. As a young boy Jack was very responsible always having odd jobs along with helping his Mother tend to his younger siblings and working alongside his father in home duties and at his father's service station in Tooele. Jack was very dependable and when he said he would do something he stuck by it until it was done and done almost to perfection, he took this work ethic into his adult life and achieved every project he attempted. He had a keen mind, could do math in his head and spit out the correct answer sometimes in seconds. He might not have known the way to use the book formulas but could come up with his own way of figuring it out and was always correct. Always quick to learn and understand almost everything he attempted. This ability came in handy when helping his wife get through her college contracting classes. When Jack was a boy he was in little league and active in scouts, he had a little mischievous way about him, one time he was at the church, he jumped off the stage and did not land as he had hoped and almost bit his tongue off, needless to say it was stitched back quite nicely by the doctor. Jack started working at Tooele Army Depot in 1967, he excelled as an Ammo Hauler, painter's helper, guided missile installer and repairer, power ground equipment repairer, package and handling Inspector, equipment Inspector of equipment returning from the Vietnam War, building and contracting. He also served 7 years in the National Guard. After this he became a Fire Fighter at Tooele Army Depot and retired as the Assistant Fire Chief. Along with being a firefighter for Tooele Army depot he was in the Tooele City volunteer fire department until he moved from Tooele but stayed on the senior list until his death. He was active in Cub Scouts, pack committee chairman and cub master along with Boy Scouts being a leader and a Scout Master for years. He was a coach for boy's soft ball and girl's soft ball. He had been active in soft ball for years and thought he would take a little break but then thought maybe he would do it one more year so he would coach his daughters, Tricia and Tracy's team. He soon found out that the girls were not at all interested in being on a softball team, however he honored his word and was the coach without them. His little team was challenged to say the least and could not win a game. One game he did not have enough girls show up to play and Jack being Jack could not forfeit the game, so he saw Tricia and Tracy in the stands and asked (begged) them to just come and stand there so he could at least play and lose with pride. Tricia and Tracy went out and low and behold they played and it was the one and only game the team won that year. That was the end of his girls soft ball coaching. Jack was a good man and respected by all he worked with, had a fun, sometimes odd, sense of humor, helping anyone that would ask him and he was a great provider for his family and always there in times of need. Supporting his grandkids in anything they needed was his great joy. He will be greatly missed and we all love and honor him. The family wishes to thank Ryan Peterson of the Orem City Fire Department and the Tooele volunteer fire Department for their assistance in the last call along with First Choice Hospice and Covington Senior Assisted Living in Orem, for their loving care of Jack and his family.
