Jacqueline (Harker) Nelson was born September 19th, 1943, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to Douglas and Mildred (Bennett) Harker. She passed away Saturday July 2, 2022 in Orem, Utah in the hospital after a brief illness at 78 years old surrounded by family.
Jacquie is survived by her husband Orrin Nelson They had six children; Preceded in death by son Russell (Michelle Hess). Survived by; Dianna (Shane Bunker), Bradley (Lisa), Nolan (Kristen Johnson), Andy (Stephanie White), and Adrianne. Jacquie and Orrin have eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Raised in the small town of Magrath, Alberta, Jacquie liked to visit her maternal grandparents at their nearby farm. She rode farm equipment, played with kittens and learned to work the farm.
In high school, Jacquie served in the student body and excelled at the violin. After graduation in 1961, she attended a Junior College in Lethbridge, receiving a diploma in Shorthand and Stenography. Jacquie married Orrin Nelson June 15, 1963, in the Cardston, Alberta temple. They met a few years earlier at her father's John Deere shop in Magrath, where Orrin worked as an apprentice mechanic. Jacquie worked as a librarian and a law firm secretary after they married while living in Lethbridge.
The couple bought their first home in Lethbridge and later moved to Magrath in 1971. They purchased an automotive garage in Magrath, Butch's service. Jacquie did the accounting for the shop. In 1979 the family moved to Orem, Utah where Orrin began a teaching career as an automotive professor at Utah Technical College,(Utah Valley University) in the Automotive department. They raised their family in Orem. Jacquie later returned to college, earning a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Jacquie worked at Orchard Park nursing center, where she worked as an LPN and an instructor for the centers' Certified Nursing (CN) program.
The couple were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They served a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois. Jacquie served as Relief Society president,cub scout leader, humanitarian leader and other various positions. She was well known for her compassionate service to friends and neighbors. She enjoyed the neighborhood kids and would often invite them into her home to make snow cones, cookies or help around the yard for extra money. She shared her passion for balloons with the neighborhood, delivering balloons to neighbors and friends for special occasions. She always sent encouraging notes to those who needed them and knew exactly what to say. She made it a point to know what was going on with all nieces, nephews and cousins.
In recent years, Jacquie and Orrin spent time visiting family, traveling throughout the U.S and Canada. They spent their time wintering in St George, Utah.
Jacquie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to enjoy crafts, music, appreciation of nature, kindness and love toward others.
Friends and family may visit Friday, July 8, 2022, from 6 - 8:00 pm and prior to services on Saturday, July 9th from 9:30 - 10:30 am at the Northridge 2nd Ward building. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday July 9, 2022, at Northridge 2nd Ward, 1780 North 165 East, Orem, Utah. A LIVE Webcast of service will begin at 11am on www.walkersanderson.com, where condolences and memories may also be shared with family.
