James L. Edwards passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 29, 1949 to Lois and Melvin Edwards in Provo, UT
James graduated from Provo High School in 1967 and then attended Southern Utah University for a short time. In August of 1968 he married the love of his life Gayle Ahlstrom and they both returned to Cedar City, Utah. On their first wedding anniversary James was drafted into the Army and after basic training spent the next year in Vietnam where he was a member of the 8th Calvary Airmobile. After his time in Vietnam he was Stationed in Fort Hood, TX for 6 month, and then returned to Utah.
James worked at USX/Geneva for the next 31 years with the last 6 years of that also working an electrical business, with a very close friend, for 10 years finally retiring in 2011 at which time he took care of his handicapped daughter and provided daycare for his granddaughter.
James was an active member of Northern Utah Mustang Owners Association and enjoyed showcasing his '89 Foxbody Mustang convertible at many car shows and winning several awards.
James and Gayle were married for 54 ½ years where he was a proud father to 7 children and had 21 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Gayle, and his children Susie (Dave) Sorensen, Gayle (Jody) Lemon, Brandy Serine, James Edwards Jr, Misty (Tracy) McCaig, Ashlynn Edwards, Anna Edwards and his best Buddy Jake, and 20 grandchildren
James is preceded in death by both his Mother and Father, and his Mother and Father in law, His Grandson Tyler, his Son-in-Law Jeff Ammon, and his Beloved Sister and Brother-in-law Barbara and George Batty.
A Celebration of Life open house has been planned to remember James on May 12, 2023 from 5-7:30 at the Walker Sanderson Funeral home 646 E 800 N Orem, UT 84097
