James “Jim” Edward Hansen, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members in Springville, Utah, on June 18, 2026, his 62nd wedding anniversary.
Jim was born July 23, 1940, in Twin Falls, Idaho to Leland Arelian and Bertha Mae Thurgood Hansen. He was the youngest of seven children raised on a dairy farm in Twin Falls, Idaho. After graduating from high school, Jim served a 2 ½ year mission to Denmark where he developed a deep love of God and the Danish people.
Jim met Shauna Lee Anderson on October 19, 1963, at a military ball while attending Utah State University as a member of the ROTC. They were married on June 18, 1964 in the Idaho Falls Temple and later welcomed 5 children. Jim graduated from Utah State University earning a master's degree in Agricultural Economics and built a successful career first as an agrichemical salesman and later as a realtor, developer, and broker.
Jim dedicated more than 30 years to the Boy Scouts of America and loved helping young men develop leadership skills and character. Jim had a passion for family history, camping, and gardening. He earned recognition as a Master Gardener in Oregon, Illinois, and Utah.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jim served faithfully in numerous leadership positions. Together, Jim and Shauna Lee served as temple ordinance workers for 29 years and completed two service missions. Jim and Shauna Lee made their homes in Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Indiana, Oregon, and Illinois. He enjoyed discovering common connections with every person he met and loved hosting large groups of family and friends in his home where everyone always felt welcome and accepted.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, Shauna Lee Hansen; his children Bradley James Hansen (Paula), Brian Todd Hansen (Karen), Brenda Lee Garrett (Chris), Barbara Sue Cluff (Casey), and Beverly Anne Rosenbalm (Jake); 28 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren, with more blessings still to come. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Arelian Hansen and Bertha Mae Thurgood Hansen, and by all six of his siblings: Leland, John, Gordon, Vernon, William, and Veon.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 481 East Center Street, Orem, Utah 84097. The viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 12:00 noon.
