Obituary

James C. "Jim" Jensen — a phenomenal family man, friend, neighbor, and mentor to those who loved him dearly — passed away on July 4th at his home in Lindon. Jim "The Old Boy" filled our lives with an abundance of love, compassion, words of wisdom, and laughter, leaving those he knew feeling appreciative, humbled, and better for having known him. Jim was born on February 3rd 1937, the second of five children, to his parents Alice Marie and James Albert in Ekalaka, Montana. He and his siblings spent the majority of their lives growing up in Utah, starting in Centerfield, then Salt Lake, then Orem. Jim married his sweetheart and best friend, Carolyn Patten, on October 8th 1959 in the Salt Lake City Temple.  They had six children that they loved and cared for tremendously. Jim was a Paratrooper in the US Army 11th Airborne Division from 1955-1962. He completed jump school at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, and was with the division when they were transferred to the European Branch in 1956, where he was stationed mostly in Munich, Germany. In 1957, he was named the Honor Graduate of his class in Carpentry and Heavy Construction at the US Army Engineer School in Europe, and he received superior student honors in Engineer Equipment Mechanics. This led to the start of his own business in 1963 with his father, James Jensen Construction. 56 years later, Jim's name has become legendary in the construction business due to his being a man of high integrity and his continuously flawless work. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed many passions and pursuits. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, particularly outdoors. He had a tremendous passion for building things with his hands, from homes, to custom furniture, to beautiful bowls turned on his lathe in his wood shop. Jim loved camping with his family and going on four wheeler rides. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and processing his own game; in his younger years, hunting season was a family tradition, and in his later years Jim loved telling stories about his successful buffalo hunt and Alaskan fishing excursion. Jim was an accomplished archer, and was a Past President of the Utah Bowman's Association (now the Utah Archery Association), in which he and Carolyn were heavily involved. He was also a Past President of Timpanogos Archers, a representative for the National Field Archery Association (NFAA), as well as one of the first inductees of the Utah Archers Hall of Fame. Jim always credited his time in the Army for his excellent marksmanship. Jim loved horses, and raised and trained several of his own quarter horses throughout the years. He was an ardent reader, his favorite subjects being Western fiction and historical non-fiction. He loved all kinds of sports, particularly baseball and football (he was a fan of the original Brooklyn Dodgers, and later, the Alabama Crimson Tide). Jim loved to tell stories and reminisce, and he loved to make others smile with his sharp wit and catalogue of colorful jokes—going to the coffee shop to gab was a favorite pastime for many years. Jim is survived by his children: Debbie (Bill) Tasker, Jim (Allison) Jensen, Charlie (Leslee) Jensen, Chris (Wendi) Jensen, Jonathan Jensen, and Tandy (Peter) Pietro; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law Joanne and Shorty Winget; brother-in-law David (Lola) Patten; and brother and sister-in-law Dale and Linda Muhlestein. Jim is reunited in death with some of the most important people in his life, including his soulmate Carolyn; his beloved granddaughter Bailey McKae (Chris and Wendi); his parents; his brother Charlie; his sisters Dagney Robinson and Carol Fraughton; and many friends who have gone before. A viewing will be held Sunday July 14 from 5-7 PM and again on Monday July 15 from 10-10:45 AM at Walker-Sanderson Funeral Home (646 East 800 North, Orem). Funeral services will be held July 15 beginning at 11 AM at Walker-Sanderson, with a brief graveside service to follow. Interment will be in Lindon City Cemetery, 500 North 200 East, Lindon. Condolences may be offered, and memories shared online with the family at www.walkersanderson.com . Military honors by American Legion Post 72. On July 20th we will have a gathering to celebrate Jim's amazing life and mind. It will be held at Pioneer Park in Lindon (150 S 500 E) from 5-8 PM and all friends, family, and acquaintances are invited to attend.
