Obituary

Janet Wright Clyde passed away peacefully on March 26, 2023, while surrounded by her children and other family members in person and virtually. Her passing marks the end of her earthly journey, but not the end of her life or legacy.

She was born in Provo, Utah, on July 6, 1937, to Harold Matthew Wright and Genevieve Fugal and was the oldest of six siblings.

She graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City and attended Brigham Young University.

Janet epitomized motherhood and charity—the pure love of Christ. Many of her younger friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren considered her a second mother. They confided in her, and she lovingly helped them learn, grow, and overcome challenges. She strived to understand the cares and concerns of each family member and friend.

She had a gift for writing tender feelings of love and encouragement. She always sent personal messages in birthday cards every year to her siblings, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many others.

She loved serving others, doing family history, making her delicious rolls and bread, listening to inspirational music, watching the family perform and sing, gardening, and going to family events and parties.

Janet married her high-school sweetheart and eternal companion, Allan Roy Clyde, on June 9, 1958, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they raised 6 children, instilling in them faith in a loving Heavenly Father and understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ, integrity, and the value of work. She encouraged them, often saying, "we can do hard things" which became a family motto and something she taught by example.

Janet was truly an angel on earth, a woman who was always looking for ways to serve others, a woman who cared for and loved those around her, and a woman of unshakeable faith. She served as a Primary President, Stake Primary President, Relief Society President, Primary Teacher, member of the ward choir and other service positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved teaching children about the gospel of Jesus Christ and taught primary children even in her 80s. Her example and loving service inspired those around her to be better themselves and to understand that Heavenly Father loved them. She loved the Savior and showed what it means to follow Him. Serving others brought her true happiness.

Janet and Allan largely raised their children in Bedford, Massachusetts before moving back to Utah. She loved the history of the area and visiting the many historical sites with her family. She served valiantly in the Billerica Ward and maintained strong ties and friendships from that time throughout her life. She picked up and drove so many friends and friends' children to church services and activities that it usually took her an hour or two to drive each way.

Her first and greatest love was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She also worked hard at various jobs during her life. She served in the family computer business, Intelligent Systems, founded by her husband and later the software business Clyde Digital, founded by her husband and two oldest sons. She ran the office and did bookkeeping, learning to use computers before the personal computer was invented.

Later she become well known as the "bread lady" at ZCMI at the Orem University Mall. She would make fresh bread, demonstrating how to do it and advising what appliances to use. Many made a regular practice of going to ZCMI to have some fresh bread and talk to her. She loved jobs where she could socialize and help others. She also served at the church distribution center and Deseret Book for many years into her late 70s.

Janet suffered a cerebral stroke in September 2022 and despite her debilitating circumstances still smiled, shared priceless thoughts, and brought joy to those around her. She was determined in her words "to endure to the end."

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother LeGrande Wright, son Daniel Clyde, daughter-in-law Lisa Clyde and brother-in-law Eldon LaVar Krantz. She is survived by her brother Richard Wright (Marge), sister Marilyn Krantz, sister Suzanne Rust (Joseph), brother David Wright (Kathy), sister-in-law Carol Wright and her children: Robert Clyde (Rebecca), Stephen Clyde (Emily), Deborah Simpson (Robert), Michael Clyde, Carolyn Clyde (Peter), daughter in-law Marcia Davis (James), 29 grandchildren, and 49 great grandchildren.
