Jared Wynn Hemmert passed peacefully and surrounded by family on May 22, 2022.
Jared was born to Dr. Wynn Howard Hemmert and Joyce Duffin Hemmert at Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida, on January 6, 1975. He spent time exploring the beaches and wind-swept hills of Pacifica, California, until his family moved to Orem, Utah in 1978. His early years were spent playing in the orchards and uncovered irrigation canals in Orem, exploring Southern Utah, and enjoying time at his grandmothers' homes in Tooele, Utah, and Afton, Wyoming. His adventure seeking, rambunctious disposition resulted in many ER visits! He graduated from Orem High School in 1993.
He served as a missionary in the Norway Oslo Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and maintained close ties to his dear Norwegian friends and fellow missionaries. He also served as the last missionary companion to his older brother, Matthew, which solidified a bond to both the country and family in a way that was unique and incredibly special. His time as a missionary also drove a deep love of heritage and culture, and he spent years researching familial ties to northern Europe and Scandinavia.
Jared studied chemistry at the University of Utah before moving to Toronto, Canada, to attend dental school. He chose the University of Toronto to learn advanced surgical dentistry skills that weren't offered at most dental schools in the United States. After his graduation, he moved back to Orem, Utah, and established his own practice. He was an accomplished dentist known for his meticulous and compassionate work, and also worked as an on-call medical professional to consult regarding, and help stabilize, facial trauma at local emergency departments. Most recently, he worked at Young Family Dental, where he continued his legacy as an excellent and deeply-compassionate dental professional. He loved his work, his patients, and his colleagues.
When not providing medical care, he enjoyed traveling, cooking, and being in the outdoors. His passion was skiing, and during the winter months he could often be found on the ski slopes in Utah and Colorado. He was well-known for the delicious meals he prepared and loved to share. He lived life at full throttle. But more than anything, he believed the most important things in this life were cultivating relationships, creating shared memories, and his strong faith in Jesus Christ. He demonstrated this so perfectly in his deep love for his three boys.
Jared was very open about his courageous fight with addiction. He was a guest on podcasts and attended medical conferences to share his experience with addiction and active recovery. We will never know how many lives he touched and changed. He will be remembered by family, friends, and colleagues as a man who represented resilience, redemption, courage, and strength. But more importantly, he will be remembered for his unmatched ability to extend and express love without condition and as someone who uniquely understood, trusted, and loved his Savior.
He is survived by his parents (Dr. Wynn and Joyce Hemmert), his wife (Carlee Sunshine), his three sons (Chandler, Preston, and Ashton; their mother Jaime Holt), his step-sons, Zackary and Jacob Taylor, his siblings Jennifer (Hansen), Matthew, Daniel, Jonathan, and Heidi (Spann), in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. And while we use familial terms to describe these relationships, he will most of all be remembered for being a true friend with a capacity to love that was, and is, unequalled.
There will be a public viewing on Friday, May 27, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home (646 E 800 N, Orem, UT 84097), followed by funeral services on Saturday, May 28 at 11:00 am (9:30-10:30 am for viewing and visiting) at the LDS chapel located at 1035 South 800 East, Orem, UT 84097. Interment will be at Orem Cemetery in a private ceremony.
