She is survived by her husband Darren and 2 sons that were the love of her life - Austin/Bronte Evans, Orion/ShayLee Evans. Plus her most favorite grandchild Jasper Jean Evans.
Siblings: Judy/Henry (deceased) Post, John /Jane Overman, Larry/Jane Overman , Curt Overman, and Scott/Malinda Overman. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father and brother Kevin Overman.
Jean lived her whole life in Utah, mostly in Provo. After high school graduation in 1972 she lived in Orem, Tahoe and Salt Lake City. She then attended Southern Utah State College for a year. Jean and a friend went to Hawaii and lived on the beach while working to save up for college.
Her first mission was to Pennsylvania/West Virginia June 11, 1977. She loved each and everyday. In fact she is still in close contact with all of her companions and others from her mission. Jean was serving her second mission with her husband in the Florida Jacksonville Mission when her cancer was discovered.
Jean received her BS degree from Utah State University in June 1981. She was a Special Education Teacher for 36 years! That is an amazing length of time when the average special ed teacher only serves about 4 years. Her love for her students was on display every day. She loved to go to work and try to make a difference in her students lives.
Jean loved to go fast. She was very adventurist jumping out of planes or paragliding. The outdoors brought her closer to God. If Jean needed to clear her head she would take a drive up into the mountains to mediate/pray/find peace of mind again. She also loved horses. Orion arranged for a horse to be brought to her front porch this past month. A very happy Jean sat and feed him carrots and was just in seventh heaven. Jean entered into motherhood very suddenly when an opportunity to adopt two little brothers March 1st 2001. She raised two very fine boys into good men. As a single mother this was no easy task. They have been there for her as she struggled with her illness.
Jean met her husband, Darren Jay Whittaker, on a blind date December 22,2015 and her first words were "I'm never getting married again!". One of the few times she has ever been wrong. They were married/sealed on April 6, 2017 in the Provo City Center Temple. At the time of her death they had been married for 8 wonderful years.
Jean's most enduring traits are how she could light up a room when she enters with love for all. She always had a prayer in her heart to be guided to the one in need. Many a day she was asked where she was going and would reply "off to buy flowers/book/gift or just visit someone she felt could use it. To think she was very much an introvert in her younger years. She would try to go for days without having to talk to anyone at high school! Her Testimony of the Savior has always been a great strength to all that were privileged to hear it. The temple was like a second home to her were she loved to serve and be about the Lord's will.
