Jeannie Cowley, 62, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2021 at her brother's home in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She is free again after a debilitating and devastating struggle with dementia.
Jeannie was born in Madison, Wisconsin on January 7th, 1959, the first of five children to Gerald Cowley and Marcia Kleve Cowley. Most of her childhood was spent in South Carolina where she graduated from Irmo High School and the University of South Carolina. After a 20-year career with Northern Telecom/Nortel, she went on to her second career teaching the fourth grade in the Ontario-Montclair school district.
Throughout her life she had homes all over the country: Wisconsin, South Carolina, Texas, North Carolina, Northern and Southern California, and finally Utah, but she loved Southern California best. And anytime she had the opportunity, she'd be off to explore another spot on the globe with her camera in tow. Europe, China, Peru, Indonesia, Egypt, New Zealand, the list goes on. She turned her photographs into art so even at home she could be surrounded by and reminded of her favorite trips.
Jeannie's nature is hard to describe. She was independent and creative and smart. She was fun! She could always be counted on to play with young nieces or nephews until both of them dissolved into giggles. She had a generous spirit and a loyalty to her family and friends that is so evident in her lifelong friendships.
Jeannie is survived by her father Gerald, brothers Rick and Gregg, and sister Cathy (Greenman). She is preceded in death by her mother Marcia and her sister Linda (Crouch).
Jeannie's was a life well-lived - full of laughter, dear friends, world travels, and successful careers. We all miss her.
