Jeffrey Laurn Smith

1979-2025

Jeff Smith, age 46, passed away on December 1st, 2025 at his home in Eagle Mountain, Utah under the care of Symbii hospice. Jeff was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in March of this year. Unfortunately, he did not win the battle but he never gave up. He was positive and hopeful until the very end.

Jeff was born in Rexburg, Idaho on April 25, 1979 to Lorna Ashliman Smith and Kari Randall Smith. He attended elementary and Junior high school in Rexburg, ID. He graduated from Madison High School in 1997. Jeff was a computer whiz in high school. All of his teachers loved him because he was so quiet and showed model citizenship. He attended Ricks College and Boise State University. He earned an associates in Network Administration from CWI in Boise, ID.

On April 8, 2000 Jeff married Wendy Foster in Cedar City, Utah. A son, Isaac was born to this union. They were later divorced. On August 4, 2007, Jeff married Cassie Gutierrez in the Portland, Oregon temple. They had 2 children and were later divorced.

Jeff's first job was a cashier at Horkleys in Rexburg, Idaho. He also worked at Idaho Pizza Company for 5 years. He worked at Smith's Marketplace in Saratoga Springs for 7 years prior to his illness. He was loved and appreciated by all who worked with him.

Jeff was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Family was most important to Jeff. He made a real effort to attend all important events of siblings and his children. Jeff was the "cool" uncle. He loved music and was a serious collector of vinyl records. He was active in a local vinyl collector's group. Jeff was super smart and excelled in word and trivia games. He also enjoyed reading and regular trips to the library with his parents and sister. Jeff was the most kind hearted person you would ever meet.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, Laurn and Elgarda Ashliman and John L. and Olive Smith. He is survived by his parents: Randy and Lorna Smith; his children: Isaac, Samantha, and Logan; his siblings: Julie Dayberry (Colin), Marie Reaves (Ben) and Steven Smith (Jenna).

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sat, Dec 6th from 2-4 pm at the LDS meeting house at 4338 E Inverness Lane, Eagle Mountain UT.
