Obituary

Jeffry James Memmott was spirited away by adventurous dreams from this life to the next, on September 25, 2021. Husband, father, brother, son, friend to all; How does one encapsulate the essence of a man's life? It would be impossible if not for one word: Love. Dad loved. He loved sunsets, his family and God, fishes, oceans, Christmas, puzzles, frosty mornings, good jokes, shooting stars, food but most of all he loved people. Love from dad was not conditional. He loved all: strangers quickly resolved into friends. He loved deeply and the evidence of this love is palpable. Dad loved life. He loved music. Often the stereo would boom loud overtures at inopportune hours of the night. Music would also be found in stillness, quietly laying on the floor, barely audible over the sounds of rain. Dad loved to be outdoors. Patiently, quietly teaching sons and grandsons the art of the hunt or baiting a hook. He loved animals, large and small. Feeding the ducks and horses or spotting wildlife. Dad taught by example the tender heart of a good steward. Dad loved his wife. He poked fun laughing with and sometimes because of her. Always holding her hand and the door. He loved his children. Sacrificing and teaching them necessary lessons to mold character, find honor in a job well done and peace in prayer. Arriving home in the pale morning light after working the graveyard shift just as his child set out to deliver the paper Jeff took the bags and hung them around his own neck. They lay ludicrously small across his broad shoulders and belly. It only became more ludicrous when the neighbor's dog came out to harass the delivery. (This was a regular occurrence.) Growling and snapping, paper bags swinging wildly, dad chased that dog back into its garage. The dog was never a problem again. Several of his children still bark at overly aggressive dogs. Then, his work finished he gave the paper bags to his child and went home, for a deserved rest. He loved Jesus and the gospel. Dad served. His contributions were many: Counselor, teacher, Quorum President, scout master, Bishop and missionary. He devoted himself to each calling, a humble offering to his Savior. Jeffry's booming laugh will be remembered along with the rasping trumpet of his blowing nose, the cheesy grin when he'd say something cheeky (which was often), the firm triple squeeze of his hand and the warmth of his voice speaking words of counsel and love (which was also often). Dad is survived by his three dashing brothers and their lovely wives: Kirk and Sandy, Scott and Jolene, Royce and Suzie. His six devilish children and their long-suffering spouses: James and Dierdre, Travis and Angie, Melissa and Cass, Hollie and Jared, Jesse and Christy, Julie and Dave. Countless nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends. And the love of his life: Beverly. His earthly work finished, Jeff has gone home now, for a well deserved rest. Friend, neighbor, stranger, Saviour, sibling, spouse and child; Dad loved them all. He loves us still, and we love him back. Memorial Services for Jeff will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021. A visitation will start at 10 am, services to follow at 11 am in the LDS chapel located at 1050 N 600 W in Orem, Utah. To view this service online use this link https://zoom.us/j/92993361148
