IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeraldeen
Simpson
November 12, 1936 – May 19, 2023
Jeraldeen Henrie Simpson, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the community, passed away on May 19, 2023, at the age of 86. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and an unwavering spirit that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jerry, as she was affectionately known, was born on November 12th, 1936 in Manti, Utah to Laura and Gerald Henrie. Her siblings, Ray, Norma, Merilyn, and Franny loved their sister dearly. She lived a simple, care-free childhood where she danced, played the violin, and learned how to box with her dad. She graduated from Provo High School, and went on to beauty school where she became a licensed hairdresser. She continued hairdressing until 2022, when her last patron passed away. She met her sweetheart, Louis Simpson, at Strawberry Days in Pleasant Grove, Utah. They married soon after on March 19th, 1957, and were later sealed in the temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They raised 5 children together and built a life full of fun, hard work, and a lot of love. Jerry went on to do hair at ZCMI for over 30 years, volunteered at the local elementary school for 10 years, completed a service mission at the LDS Cannery, and crocheted hundreds of afghans for veterans, the homeless, and patients of Primary Children's hospital. Anyone who received a one-of-a-kind knitted blanket from Jerry can be sure every stitch was done with love and devotion.
Jerry loved to dance, and as a proud member of Jean's Golden Girls, she graced basketball halftime shows and delighted audiences at prestigious venues such as Utah Valley University, the University of Utah, Madison Square Garden, the Grand Ole Opry, and historic Branson, Missouri. Her performances with the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers added an extra sparkle to her impressive dance career.
Jerry's vibrant spirit was evident in her active lifestyle. She found solace in the water and could often be found swimming laps with unwavering determination at the local gym. She made fast friends with anyone walking along her favorite paths. She never let a spring season go by without curating her flowergarden to perfection. Her dedication to staying fit and energetic was an inspiration to all who knew her. Jerry also had a deep love for animals, especially her cherished cats, dogs, and horses. Her home was always open to strays in need, offering them love and care.
Jerry's joy extended to simple pleasures and cherished moments with her family. With a cold Coca-Cola in hand, she embarked on aimless drives, creating cherished memories alongside her children and grandchildren. Her free-spirited nature and authentic self brought a smile to everyone's face. Jerry remained true to herself, never changing for anyone, and her genuine nature endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Jerry is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lou, nearly twenty-five years ago, Jerry eagerly anticipated reuniting with him in the arms of eternity. She is survived by her loving children Randy, Becky, Robby, Mike, and Lisa, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Jerry's legacy continues through her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren, who were blessed to experience her boundless love.
Jerry Henrie Simpson will be remembered for her radiant spirit, charming spunk, infectious laughter, and unwavering love. She has left an indelible mark on our lives, and though she may be physically absent, her memory will forever dance within our hearts.
