It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Lynn Jeffcoat, age 84, on November 1, 2024, in Orem, Utah. Born on August 19, 1940, in Lubbock, Texas, Jerry lived a life marked by dedication to his country, his family, and his community.
Jerry enlisted in the United States Army in August 1959, beginning his military career with the 1st Airborne Battle Group, 505th Infantry. After his initial enlistment, he briefly worked for Halliburton before reenlisting in November 1962. Devoting himself to the U.S. Army Special Forces, Jerry served ten years in the tropics of Southeast Asia and Central America. He served his country with honor and distinction, completing a year-long tour of duty in Vietnam. His exemplary service earned him numerous awards, including the Master Parachutist Wings, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, and several other commendations.
Following his military career, Jerry pursued higher education, earning both a Bachelor of Business and a Master of Business Administration from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Certified to teach five disciplines at the college level in Arizona, he shared his knowledge as an educator at Northland Pioneer College in Holbrook and Winslow, Arizona. His professional journey also included roles as the Chief Financial Business Officer for the Colorado River Indian Tribes in Parker, Arizona, and as an accountant and later Business Officer for South Plains Head Start in Levelland, Texas. While in Parker, he dedicated two years as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, exemplifying his commitment to service in all forms.
Jerry was a man of many interests. He enjoyed silversmithing, watching television and movies, reading books, and exploring the countryside. Known for his relaxed demeanor, he appreciated the simple pleasures of life. Jerry was a proud member of the American Legion and a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jeffcoat, and his three sons: Jerry Lynn Jeffcoat II (Tami), Timothy Jeffcoat (Sonya), and Victor Jeffcoat. and several grandkids. Jerry's legacy of service, education, and dedication to his country will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A Military Graveside Honor Ceremony will be held at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 17111 Camp Williams Road, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Jerry are invited to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.
