Jerry Tucker Smith, 84, of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 12:01 a.m. surrounded by his loving wife and family. Jerry was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 16, 1933, to Douglas J. Smith and Josie Barlow Smith. Jerry was introduced to Dixie Gordon when his family moved from Salt Lake City to Orem to run a grocery store. His mother became Dixie's Young Women's leader and set them up. Jerry and Dixie were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 12, 1953. They were married just shy of 65 years. His commitment to his temple covenants and his eternal family is what he cherished the most. Besides his family, a few of his hobbies were watching NASCAR, traveling, and working hard. He worked at the grocery store with his dad until he went to work for Pet Milk. While traveling to Colorado for Pet, he met Bob Dunkel, who offered him a job at Bell and Dunkel food brokerage firm. This was the turning point for our family. After many years Jerry became the President of R.H. Bell Co. until he retired. Jerry also was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a counselor in both the bishopric and in the stake presidency. He and his wife also served in both the Denver and Timpanogos Temples for many years. He taught us by his example to be committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ, to be honest, and to work hard. Upon retirement, Jerry and Dixie moved back to Orem, Utah to take care of his aging mother. Jerry has touched many lives here, especially the children of Orchard Elementary School where he was crossing guard for several years. Even when he was 80 and hit by a car in the crosswalk, he was determined to be back before the end of the year. He did it! Thank you to the parents and children of Orchard Elementary for their love, support and patience. We would also like to send our love and appreciation to our friends and neighbors that have kept in contact over the years. Jerry is survived by his wonderful wife, Dixie, and six adoring children and their spouses: Jerilee (John) Haggerty, Pamela (John) Barlow, Deejay (Richelle) Smith, Daryl (Rebecca) Smith, David (Marianne) Smith, and Robyn (Mark) Bretzing; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. We have been eternally blessed by his example of service and sacrifice for our family and others. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 4, 2018, 1:00 p.m., Aspen 8th Ward, 1465 North 800 West, Orem.
