Obituary

Jil Lowder Paravato

1958 - 2023

Jil Lowder Paravato, 64, beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 22, 2023, concluding a courageous fight with lung cancer.

Jil was born on June 26, 1958, in North Ogden, Utah, the only daughter and the second of five children of Ronald Decker Lowder and Elaine Barker Lowder. Jil cherished her North Ogden roots and spent every August with her family at her Grandma Barker's home, visiting cousins and enjoying the horses and cows around the barn. At the age of five she moved to Northern California. She attended school at Ygnacio Valley High School where she was the school mascot and enjoyed singing in Madrigals and Concert Choir. Upon graduation from high school, Jil attended Brigham Young University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Jil started her professional career as an auditor at Price Waterhouse, where she became a certified public accountant (CPA). She then transitioned to First Interstate Bank, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become the Vice President of Real Estate Accounting.

On October 13, 1984, Jil married the love of her life, Thomas Alan Paravato (Tom) in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Tom is the oldest child of Francis Samuel Paravato and Alma Louise Fischer. Jil reared her family in Southern California for over 20 years. She was a gracious host, opening up her home to family for most holidays and special occasions each year. Jil's greatest priority and accomplishment was her family. She made it a standard practice to be home when her kids returned from school to be able to hear about their day and help them with their homework, teach them piano, take them to extra curricular activities, make family dinner, and finish the night with family prayer and scripture study. She was an exceptional listener with an easy laugh. Jil was blessed with talents for quilting, singing, reading, athletics, playing the piano and making chocolate chip pumpkin bread. Jil had a beautiful voice and loved her time touring with the Leona Valley Women's Ensemble. She could often be found playing games with her children, watching her beloved Dodgers, and finding the best dark chocolate truffles. She was an avid reader and finished multiple books each week. Together she and Tom have 10 grandchildren. Jil was quick to initiate a roadtrip to visit family and has clocked hundreds of hours playing Candy Land and Sorry with her grandkids. She was completely devoted to her grandchildren and never missed sending each one a holiday card.

Jil was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in leadership assignments in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She spent 5 years teaching early morning seminary and valued her time serving as an ordinance worker in the temple. She loved genealogy and appreciated her ancestors. She added over 7,000 names to the Paravato family tree. Jil was a natural leader with a sharp wit, compassionate heart, and immovable integrity.

Jil is preceded in death by her parents Ronald and Elaine Lowder, her grandson, Decker Paravato, as well as her sister-in-law Vicky Lowder, brother-in-law Billy Cason and nephew Billy Cason Jr. Jil is survived by her husband Thomas Paravato; siblings: Justin Lowder, Torrey Lowder (Connie), Todd Lowder (Catherine), Darin Lowder (Merritt); children: Kristen Israel (Aaron), Lauren Taylor (Seth), Megan Rothey (Zachary), David Paravato (Michelle); and 9 grandchildren.
