Joan Gunnell

1932-2024

Joan Gunnell, age 92, passed away peacefully on 15 December 2024 at Creekside Senior Living Center in Bountiful, Utah. Joan was born and raised in Rigby, Idaho to Macie Utannah McCullough and loved being part of the large McCullough family.

She attended Idaho State University where she met and married Reid J Gunnell, a student athlete she met in freshman English class. The couple moved from Pocatello, Idaho to Arcadia, California in 1958 where they became active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and raised their five children.

Joan graduated with her bachelor's degree from Cal State Los Angeles in 1963 and spent many years typing and editing theses for students at the University. In 1995 Reid and Joan retired to Orem, Utah where they served two full time missions at the Missionary Training Center and were avid fans of BYU sports.

Joan was best remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a kind-hearted neighbor and friend. She was preceded in death by Reid who passed away in 2002 following a short battle with heart disease.

She is survived by her brother J Davis Hargrave (Ruth), five children: Reid W Gunnell (Diane), Karen Baughman Chapman, Julie Kofoed, David J Gunnell (Allyson) and Sherri Rogers (Tracy); 27 grandchildren, and 73 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 at 10 am, 620 Heather Rd, Orem, Utah with a viewing at 8 am. Interment will be at Orem City Cemetery.
