Joan Marie Gurr passed away on March 2, 2026. Born in Heber City, Utah, on June 6, 1951, to Earl and Millie Bethers Gurr, Joan spent her childhood in Heber before moving to Provo, where she graduated from Provo High School in 1969.

Seeking sunshine and new experiences, Joan spent time working in California before returning home to study accounting and film at BYU. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, highlighted by her service as a missionary in the Leeds England Mission. The bonds she formed there lasted a lifetime, and she remained in contact with those she taught for decades. Joan’s sharp mind made her a natural at accounting, a career she enjoyed.

Her favorite people were her nieces and nephews, whom she loved and made fun memories with. In 2022, after several debilitating injuries, Joan moved to Summerfield Assisted Living, where she found unexpected joy and companionship in her marriage to Bob Kockenhoer. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Summerfield staff for their tender care in her final years.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her siblings, Bill (Nell) Gurr, Shauna Cartwright, and Linda (Bill) Fairbanks, along with a legacy of beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 7, 2026, 11:00 am at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah. Family and friends may visit that morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the service. Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
