JoAnne Barfuss Kelly 1928 - 2018 Our dear Mother passed away on Dec. 5, 2018 of heart failure. JoAnne's greatest joys were her faith and her family. She was born on August 11, 1928 in Pocatello, Idaho to Raymond David and Mary Thelma Stones Barfuss. She married Burton Cleveland Kelly in the Idaho Falls Temple on Aug. 15, 1952. She and Burton served three missions together for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Canada, Winnipeg, SLC Family History Library, and the Nauvoo Temple. They also served for several years as ordinance workers in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. After rearing her children, JoAnne returned to school, graduating from Brigham Young University in April, 1988 with a degree in History, where she was honored by BYU President Jeffrey R. Holland as the oldest graduate. JoAnne loved quilting, crocheting, and helping others. Many came to live for a time in our home because of her generosity. JoAnne loved watching BYU Sports and the Utah Jazz. We all learned to work in our large garden, and it was a joy to work beside her. She loved going camping (especially at Camper World), traveling, and cruising. She delighted in playing games with her children and grandchildren. She served three times as a Relief Society President, and in numerous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She pondered the scriptures daily. Her passion was Family History, and she spent many hours researching our ancestors and visiting where they lived. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Burton and JoAnne are the parents of nine children: Mark (Denise); Deborah Anne (Ray) Christensen; Barbara Jo; Michael (Lisa); Paul (Monica); John (Kristine); Stephen; Mary Kay (Eric) Pfost; and Philip (Greta). She has 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burton, sister Lorraine Shortt, son Mark, daughter Barbara Jo, and grandson, Jason Kelly. A viewing will be held Friday evening, December 14, from 6-8 p.m. at Walker-Sanderson Mortuary, 646 E. 800 N., Orem, UT. The funeral will be in the Stonewood 1st Ward Building, 575 S. 400 W., Orem, UT at 11:00 a.m. on December 15, 2018, with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 at the same location.
