Obituary

John "Johnny" Lee Cox passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Friday March 31st, 2023 in Orem Utah.

Johnny was born on June 16, 1934 in Fairview, Utah. At a very early age Johnny was placed into the American Fork Training School. This is where Johnny grew up and learned various work skills and made countless friends. He used these skills to work the farm on the grounds and in the kitchen.

While at the training school Johnny met the love of his life "Bernie." They grew up together at the training school. When they got in their teens Bernie proposed to Johnny and he said yes!

On October 4, 1969 Johnny and Bernie were married in Provo, Utah at Bernie's uncle Floyd's home. Six months after their marriage the two decided to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were Baptized on March 29, 1970 at the American Fork Tabernacle. They then were sealed together for time and all eternity on Johnny's birthday in the Provo, Utah Temple on June 16, 1987.

Johnny and Bernie lived in American Fork and while they lived there Johnny worked at Dick Patterson's chicken farm, Standard Builders, and Humphries Floral. In October 1984 the two decided to move to Provo where they lived in several apartments until finding their forever home at the Provo Housing Building. Johnny got a job at Deseret Industries where he worked for several years. While there he was nominated for employee of the month both in 1985 and 1986.

Johnny had a sweet tooth and always had to have candies, cake, Coke, and banana cream pie made by "Marcie." He had to have these treats while watching any baseball, basketball, or football games that had to do with BYU. He was a huge Cougars fan who could tell you everything about their football team. One of the biggest highlights of Johnny's life that he told everyone he knew is when his cousin Skylar was able to get him and Bernie into a BYU football practice. He was able to meet the team and Coach Sitake!

Johnny also enjoyed gardening, yardwork, feeding the ducks, and playing with his cat "April".

On December 28, 2022 Johnny lost the love of his life and has been heartbroken since. Johnny was unable to care for himself so he was moved to Orchard Rehab where he lived out the last days of his life.

Johnny is survived by his cat "April" and his longtime caregiver Marsha Jenkins.
