John Krommenhoek passed away on February 25, 2021, of causes incident to age. He was born July 11, 1945 in Zeist, The Netherlands, just after its liberation from Nazi forces .He was one of nine children born to Mathilde Lemken and Jan Krommenhoek. Four of the children immigrated with their mother to the United States in 1957. After living in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for a time with their host family, most of the family found their way to Utah, after having joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while still living in The Netherlands.
From Utah, they moved to California in 1962. John married Rita Sambrano in 1969 in the Los Angeles temple. They were the parents of five children. He graduated from Southern Utah State College (now SUU) in 1973.
He later remarried and had one daughter.
John died with his goodness, his friendship, and his faith intact, all those qualities that make the measure of a man. As one grandchild noted, he was a man with a positive mindset.
He is survived by his children Melissa (Dave) Dunstan, Amanda (Travis) Shields, Sid (Rian) Krommenhoek, Lisa (Abe) Richards, Erin Krommenhoek, 15 grandchildren, and by his former wife Rita Sambrano Swenson. His son Stephen Krommenhoek preceded him in death.
