Obituary

Joseph Laird Johnson was born on May 27, 1950. He grew up enjoying time with friends and participating in the Boy Scouts. From an early age, Joseph demonstrated a particular talent for mathematics, excelling in the subject throughout high school. His academic achievements earned him a scholarship that helped support his college education.

He began his college studies at El Camino Junior College before transferring to the University of Southern California, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. During his college years, Joseph also became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a faith that remained an important part of his life.

Following college, Joseph began a career with the Social Security Administration. He started his federal service in Los Angeles, California, and later transferred to Provo, Utah, where he continued his career until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Joseph valued the relationships he formed with others. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends from his church community and with his extended family.

Joseph is survived by his sisters, Janice Johnson and Jean Clement, as well as his eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Winifred Johnson, and his siblings, Helen Shields, Marvin Johnson, and Linda Camacho.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 10, at 11:00 a.m. in the Relief Society Room of the LDS chapel located at 2225 W. 620 N., Provo, Utah. There will be no separate viewing or visitation. Burial will follow at Provo City Cemetery.
