IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Charles
Lohman
May 15, 2000 – October 16, 2023
Joseph Charles Lohman passed away at his residence on Monday, October 16, 2023, in Orem, Utah. Joseph was born May 15, 2000, in Springfield, Illinois to Jalen and Angela Lohman. In 2012, Joseph moved with his family to League City, Texas. Then, in 2016, they moved to Mound, Minnesota, where Joe graduated from Mound Westonka High School in 2018. After graduation he moved to Utah. Wherever Joe lived he managed to create lifelong friendships. To Joseph his friends were family that he met along his way.
Joseph is survived by his parents, Jalen and Angela Lohman, his siblings, Cecilia (Justin) Driscoll, Andrew (Hannah) Lohman, and Hannah Lohman; niece, Gianna, and nephew, Hudson; Grandparents: Sharon (Paul) Felix, Charles (Debra) McGrew; and Rose Mary Lohman; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. His grandfather, Ronald Lohman preceded him in death.
Joseph loved spending time with his friends and family. To know Joe was to love him. His smile would light up a room and he had a great sense of humor. He expressed his love through his actions. A hug from him would make the world disappear around you and you felt important, loved, and safe, as if you were wrapped in a warm blanket. He was an empathetic soul and always seemed to notice those who were struggling or hurting and would try to make it better.
Even though Joseph struggled silently with his own issues for many years, he was a rock of support to everyone he came across. He always put others' needs before his. He would drop everything to help a friend or family member in need. He spent his life trying to make sure others were happy. He served people because he loved them. Joe lived a selfless life and continues to serve others even in death through the process of organ and tissue donation.
Joseph tried his hardest, but the burdens that he silently bore proved to be too much for him in this life. As his family, we know that he chose to end his suffering on his terms. His early departure brings tremendous anguish and raw sadness to all who knew and loved him. But in spite of our pain, anger, grief, and confusion we ask that everyone focus on how his life was lived, not how it ended. We can honor the memory of this incredible son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend by sharing the same kind of love and empathy for others that he did. We know that nothing would make Joe happier than knowing that we are leaning on, loving, and supporting one another. All of us are better for knowing him and having him in our lives.
Please check on your loved ones often and take the issue of mental health seriously. Life is fragile. Cherish each and every day. Live every moment to its fullest.
