Joyce Ilene Jensen Stumphy was born September 23, 1930 in Salt Lake City, UT, daughter of Edgar C. and Isabella Proctor Jensen, and passed away peacefully on November 30. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert John and sister Janis Fleming. Her funeral service will be conducted on December 12 at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home in Provo, UT, at 1:00 p.m. with a viewing scheduled from 11:00 AM. Joyce enjoyed a professional career in modern dancing, teaching in Ohio, New Jersey, and lastly at Brigham Young University where she met and married one of her older students, Al Stumphy, February 18 of 1972. Following the births of two sons, Mark Daryl in 1973 and Matthew Charles in 1974, she sacrificed her dancing career which she loved so much and from which she resigned, to became a stay-at-home mom. She loved music also and tried her hand at composing choral works for many years, none of which, unfortunately, were ever published. She sang soprano and participated with Al in the Utah Valley Choral Society for over 15 years. Joyce served in the Church as a Gospel Doctrine teacher for many years and sang in numerous Ward choirs and other callings. She is survived by her husband Al, and both sons. She will be missed enormously, but we know now that she is bounding about joyfully somewhere in Paradise doing what she loved so much in mortality and probably composing more works for heavenly choirs.
