Obituary

Joyce Norton Terry, age 81, passed away on August 10, 2020 at the Utah Valley Specialty Hospital after a complicated month that started with a trip to the ER for bowel obstruction. After passing away she was joyfully reunited with her husband, Wayne Taylor Terry who passed away on February 6, 2017. Joyce was born on April 13, 1939 in Cache Valley, Utah to Vesta Hansen and Marion Norton. At the age of four her family moved to Salt Lake City, Holiday area, where she attended school and graduated in 1957 from Olympus High School. She studied education at the University of Utah for three and half years. She went on a blind date with Wayne in early 1960 and they were married on August 31 of that same year in the Salt Lake Temple. Joyce started working to support Wayne in his studies at Brigham Young University. She was a skilled secretary and administrative assistant, working for many companies starting in a government job. She worked for an attorney, US Steel, Ramie Simms, Orem Community Hospital planning office and finished her career at BYU as Department Secretary of Civil Engineering where she worked for 10 years. But her real career and focus was raising her family. The family had moved to Orem in 1974 where they remained and raised their family. Joyce cherished being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served three full time missions with Wayne, at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii, in Kona, Hawaii, and as Family History missionaries in Salt Lake City, Utah. They also served together on the Mount Timpanogos Temple planning committee. She was a faithful ministering sister and always looked for opportunities to serve others. Friends and family will remember Joyce best for her wonderful laugh, infectious smile, pleasant personality, and the best bottled peaches you've ever tasted. She kept a very tidy home and yard and loved working in her rose gardens. Joyce was an excellent seamstress, loved to knit and always had a craft project in progress. She loved to keep busy! She also loved chocolate, Diet Pepsi, stuffed animals and the comics. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her brothers, Robert Norton, Arizona and DeLoy (Linda) Norton, Utah. Her children, Steve (Alicia) Terry, Orem, Jennifer (David) Mortenson, Highland and six grandchildren, Nicholas, Joshua, Spencer, Cole, Ashley and Cortland. Joyce spent her last three years living at Highland Glen Senior Living in Highland, Utah where she made many wonderful friends. Some of them worked there, some of them lived there and some of them were her visiting care providers. The family is very grateful for the blessings these people and all other associations brought into her life.
