Obituary

Judy Anderson Hillam Brimhall, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend passed away December 25, 2021. She valiantly battled ovarian cancer the last weeks of her life and chose Christmas Day to return Home. Judy was born May 20, 1942, in Riverside, California as the first of seven children to Duane and Jean Anderson Hillam. She grew up in Riverside, California; Durango, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Olympus High School in 1960. Judy attended the University of Utah studying elementary education but finished her education at Brigham Young University in 1968. She met her husband, Frank "Gene" Eugene Brimhall, at the University of Utah and they married in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 3, 1969. Gene and Judy are the proud parents of Brett (Michelle) Brimhall; Brian (Heather) Brimhall; Melinda (Eric) Greenwood; Melanie (Josh) Kennedy; and Megan (Dave) Kallas; grandchildren Brennon, Jessica (Austin), Cameron, Nathan, Hailey, Brayden, Ashlynn, Lillie, Neal, Harper, Cora, Tessa and Monroe, and two great-granddaughters Grace and Annie. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, parents Jean and Duane Hillam, and a host of loved ones. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her siblings and lifelong best friends Bonnie, Doug (Kandy), Patti, Merrilee, Terry (Jim) and Laurie. We all loved Judy very much and her loss is indescribably deep. After Gene and Judy married, they moved to Detroit, Michigan where she taught elementary school. She loved teaching and being with children. Judy and Gene returned to Salt Lake City where Judy became a full-time mom after the birth of her first child and it was her most cherished role. In 1976, they moved to Orem where she resided the remainder of her life. Later in life, she helped Gene run the family businesses and wore many hats, including executive administrator, accountant, and office manager for their Auto Trim & Decor, Western Rustic Fence and Log Pole Enterprises businesses. She spent the final 13 years of her career working for Revere Health, a job she loved. Judy volunteered for decades cub scouting and scouting. Hundreds of young men earned their Eagle Scout because of her. (Any teenage boy that showed up to the house was usually grilled about their Eagle Scout ambitions.) In honor of her many years of dedicated service, Judy received a Silver Beaver award from the Utah National Parks Council. Judy, along with her siblings, carried a deep love for music and enjoyed singing in choirs, leading music, and playing the flute in the University of Utah marching band. Just days before her passing, she and her siblings sat around a piano to sing Christmas carols, including their favorite "Still, Still, Still." Judy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and often served as the choir director in the Sharon 4th Ward choir. She also led the music for the Zion's Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for 10 years. She also loved family history and genealogy work. Judy's greatest characteristic was to instantly and generously show love and compassion towards others as she served them, but her greatest accomplishment was nurturing, teaching, and raising her children. Her laughter and joy were contagious and she filled our homes with that joy. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30th at 1 pm with a viewing from 11:30 am-12:30 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 310 North 100 East in Orem, Utah. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
