Karen Jensen Hunt

May 5, 1942 – July 23, 2026

Karen Jensen Hunt of Orem, Utah, peacefully returned home to her Heavenly Father on July 23, 2026, surrounded by the family she cherished and loved so deeply.

Born on May 5, 1942, Karen was the second child of Moroni and Mary Jean (Reynolds) Jensen. Raised on the family farm in Orem alongside her five siblings, Karen developed a lifelong love for the beauty of the outdoors and a strong work ethic. She often delighted her family with fond memories of her farm upbringing. If she wasn't spending time with her family you could almost always find her outside, happily tending to her vibrant flower gardens. Her gardens were beautiful, and on several occasions were awarded Yard of the Week by Orem City.

During her high school years, Karen was a Tigerette and served as president for one of those years. She went on to graduate with the Orem High School class of 1960. Three years after high school, Karen married the love of her life, James “Jim” Hunt, on March 14, 1963, in the Manti Utah Temple. For 63 years together, they built a life rooted in faith and devotion, raising two sons who were the absolute pride and joy of her life: Tyler and Matthew.

Karen had a genuine, radiant love for people, and people instinctively loved her back. She was never truly a stranger to anyone—making friends wherever she went and striking up joyful conversations with everyone in her path. Her natural warmth made her a beloved fixture in her community, both as a longtime elementary school secretary at Westmore, Cascade, and Scera Park Elementary schools, and as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Over the years, she devoted countless quiet hours typing weekly programs and monthly ward newsletters, serving as a counselor in a Stake Primary Presidency, and eventually answering the call to serve alongside Jim as a senior missionary in the Manila Philippines Mission, where she served as an assistant matron in the temple presidency.

Above all her other accomplishments, Karen excelled in her absolute favorite role: being a grandmother. Blessed with 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, she truly mastered the art of grandmotherhood, showering each generation with unconditional love and affection at every opportunity.

Karen is survived by her devoted husband, Jim; her two sons, Tyler (Jodi) Hunt of Wellsville, Utah, and Matthew (Daelynn) Hunt of Lehi, Utah; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Gloria Lesher, Kathy (David) Anderson, and Jan Paul (Carole) Jensen.

She was preceded in death and joyfully reunited with her parents, Moroni and Mary Jean Jensen; her brother, William Michael Jensen; her sister, Gayle Brereton; and her brother-in-law, Dennis Lesher.

Our family would like to express our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the medical and housekeeping staff on the 5th and 7th floors at Utah Valley Hospital. You lovingly cared for our mother during her final journey home, and she truly considered each of you her angels. You were angels for us as well. Thank you for your tenderness and grace during such a bittersweet time.

Services & Arrangements

A viewing will be held Thursday evening July 30th from 6:00- 8:00 pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home at 646 E 800 N Orem, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Lakeview Stake Center (450 W. 1800 S., Orem, Utah).

Karen’s bright light, endless kindness, and nurturing soul enriched every life she touched. She will be profoundly missed, forever remembered, and dearly cherished.
