Karen Marie Cowley Payne, age 58, of Chandler, AZ, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on May 23, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Provo, UT on October 19, 1960 to William "Bud" Cowley and Marilyn Brown Cowley as the youngest of four children and the only daughter. She grew up in Orem graduating from Orem High School in 1978. She attended college at Brigham Young University where she met and married the love of her life, Edward Morgan Payne and they had 7 beautiful children. Karen was a wonderful mother and made such sacrifices of her time by homeschooling all her children. She was amazing in the kitchen and loved trying new recipes. She enjoyed camping with her family, family gatherings, Hallmark movies, word search puzzles, and indexing for her church. She recently celebrated indexing/arbitrating 1 million names. She loved the Christmas season and enjoyed collecting nativity sets, usually gifted to her by her family. She had 84 nativity sets and loved to display them around her home. Those who knew her, knew her for her quiet generosity and service. She had a tender heart for children, especially her grandchildren. Karen loved sharing her warmth and tender heart through crocheting and gifting baby afghans, a tradition she started with her own children, then her grandchildren and then any baby she knew was coming in her church and community. She has gifted over 150 handmade afghans. Karen had a gift of touching people's lives with her musical talents through singing or accompanying others on the piano or organ. She left a legacy of music by teaching all 7 of her children how to play the piano and was continuing that legacy by teaching her grandchildren as well. Karen is survived by her loving husband, Edward Morgan Payne, her children, Brian (Heather), Janalee Fish (Eric), Rebecca Silva (Tony), Deborah, Stephanie Clifford (Cory), Cameron (Lisa), and Marisa and her 11 grandchildren. Also surviving her is her father, William "Bud" Cowley and her 3 brothers Mark (Karalean), Blair (Lisa) and Dale (Annette) and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Marilyn Brown Cowley. A celebration of Karen's life will be held in Orem, UT on Saturday, June 1 st , 2019 at 11:00 am at The Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E 800 N Orem, UT 84097 with interment in The Orem City Cemetery. A viewing will begin at 9:30 am, prior to the main services.
